To get his job done, George H. Jones lined his feet up perfectly on the narrow lintel below the statue of Clio and her clock-wheeled chariot. During most months of the year, Jones earned $41.67 winding all the clocks in the House of Representatives. The writer of this newspaper photograph’s original caption counted 125 clocks in the Capitol.
