Susan J. Palmer is a sociologist of religion and researcher of new religious movements (NRMs), as well as a professor in the Religious Studies department of Dawson College and Concordia University. She has authored several other books on the topic.[1][2]

The book was published October 21, 2011 by Oxford University Press.[1] The New Heretics of France received a generally positive reception.

George Adams writing for Nova Religio described it as a "thought-provoking work", and said that it would hopefully initiate "further exploration and dialogue about the French approach to dealing with new religious movements."[5]
