Grammar Begets Clarity & Reason

Twice now, I've replaced the same horribly ungrammatical pseudo-sentence:

"He was unaware of the geographical origins of the fruit and others quickly pointed out that it could not have been as the custard-apple was believed to have been brought into India in only after the Portuguese established trade in India (post 1492)."

The reversion was defended thus:

"Previous wording better."

Come now. I can understand making mistakes like this, but being stubborn about it isn't defensible. If the deficiency isn't totally obvious, here are links to the first 3 legitimate online grammar checkers I find in a duckduckgo search:

The following was removed:

Galvano Fiamma, in his Cronica universalis (written between 1339 and 1345), describes his knowledge of Markland, which is an area of North America's Atlantic coast, thought by some to be the Labrador coast.

The governor of this island is a bishop. In this land, there is neither wheat nor wine nor fruit; people live on milk, meat, and fish. They dwell in subterranean houses and do not venture to speak loudly or to make any noise, for fear that wild animals hear and devour them. There live huge white bears, which swim in the sea and bring shipwrecked sailors to the shore. There live white falcons capable of great flights, which are sent to the emperor of Katai. Further westwards there is another land, named Marckalada, where giants live; in this land, there are buildings with such huge slabs of stone that nobody could build with them, except huge giants. There are also green trees, animals and a great quantity of birds. However, no sailor was ever able to know anything for sure about this land or about its features.

Further reading

I checked out several of the entries that looked odd and removed them. What is "Further reading" meant to offer readers? I would expect it's sources that are either too primary or too focused on possibility rather than probability. A lot of this stuff seems to be neither. Would it be better to cut the section if it serves to attract nonsense? Rjjⁱⁱⁱ (talk) 04:30, 16 May 2024 (UTC)
