You'll also want to find a spray bottle and fill it with soapy water. You will also need a squeegee. I used one of the rectangular types that are used for applying vinyl to cars. A credit card might have worked fine, but might as well use the right tools.
The soapy water helps to get all the bubbles out and pushes the film onto the glass. As long as you clean and dry the glass first, then apply the soapy water, installation should be a breeze.
I purchased the film to install on the inside of the glass railing on our balcony. As it is outside, I'm not sure how well it will hold up, although it's also not directly exposed to the elements. Time will tell.
As of writing this review, the film has been on for about 6 hours. I will be monitoring for a couple of weeks before applying more to the rest of the balcony. I will update this review if anything changes in that time.
4 stars to start as the film does have some scratches and spots on it, but I can't really complain over all.
EDIT: alright so its like 3-4 months down the road and this film hasn't moved. I'm curious to see what happens as we go from warm to cold weather. I did install it in cooler weather. Over all I'm very happy with the product. Worked almost exactly as expected. Hard to get perfect, easy to get pretty good.
Follow. The. Instructions. Spray bottle. Soapy water. Hard squeegee. The reviews with people who have big pockets of air didn't use soapy water. My application is outside, on the interior face of the balcony railing glass.
Keep in mind, once you take the backing off the film, it's very static-y. Everything will cling to it. If you can, have someone else hold the film while you pull the backing off. That way it won't swing back towards you and pick up lint/pet hair. The "scratches" I noticed at first are actually cat hair. True story. Though it isn't noticeable enough for me to try and fix it.
Cleaning the windows is the hardest part! Clean them REALLY well - especially the corners.
A cutting mat is ideal but not necessary.
Spraying soapy water on glass and film works great with a thorough squeegee-ing & more Windex if you don't have a seperate spray bottle worked fine.
I let mine dry and then easily cut star shaped peekaboo holes

My apartment leaves onto a busy, not-super-safe street. I initially tried, and failed to do a spray-on frosted glass. It was horrible, smelly, and was botchy even after honing my skills.
Decided to bite the bullet on this, and it was PERFECT! Here are a few tips.
1. Get an Xacto knife
2. Get a squeegee
3. Get a spray bottle & fill with with soap and water
Measure out your window, and add an inch to the width and height. Spray the window with water, and separate the layer of plastic that protects the static-y layer. Stick it to the window and use your squeegee to remove the bubbles underneath. It’s so satisfying.
Some reviews give low star ratings because the two halves are difficult to separate. The first layer has a tab to separate them, but after that you need to place a piece of scotch tape before separating the two. I didn’t do that, so I just poked in between the two layers with my xacto knife and it took 1-3 seconds each time to separate them.
I love the way it looks! I got the wrong size, but am confident I’ll be able to still cover the rest of the window just fine. Finally, some privacy!
This was definitely the most therapeutic ways to end my frustrating set of renovations! 🎉

1. Cutting: I thought this was the easiest part of the process. As they say, measure twice and cut once. I measured our door multiple times to ensure I got the width and height correct as well as the film itself. Pay attention to the pull tab that helps you peel the protective part from the film – I didn't notice it and accidentally cut that part off. (Not the end of the world but annoying.) The instructions say to cut slightly larger than the area you need to cover. I would advise against this. I probably cut mine about 1/8" wider than the measurements and then I had to in with an exacto knife after it was up to trim the excess. Not ideal, but I went to art school, so I'm more comfortable with an exacto knife than most. I'm not sure why the instructions tell you to do this, but I would encourage you to cut 1/8-1/4" smaller than what you need.
2. Clean the surface: I like surgically cleaned our front door with a clean microfiber cleaning towel and glass cleaner twice. It's important to do this because every little hair, piece of dirt, or fuzz will show once you apply it to the surface. Take the time to ensure the surface is squeaky clean.
3. Spray the heck out of the surface: Make sure you have a spray bottle ready before you start this process. I followed the directions by spraying the surface before applying. However, getting the film straight and positioned took longer than we thought. I think I ended up spraying our glass door three times before we actually put the film on. Have your spray bottle nearby throughout the process.
4. Applying: This was a lot of trial and error. Luckily, if you stick the film on crooked, it comes off pretty easily (again, this is why re-spraying is so important). My husband helped me and I can't imagine how I would've been able to do this without an extra set of hands. He held the bottom away from the window as I worked from the top to get the film aligned and smoothed out. I used our shower squeegee to smooth everything out and remove air bubbles. If you're doing it right, you'll see water trickle down to the bottom of the film. Once it was properly affixed to the glass, I spent about 5-10 smoothing it out with the squeegee. This process would be a lot harder and take longer without a squeegee, so I'd recommend buying one if you don't have one already.
