Arms Tech Compact Police Carbine: Innovative 5.56 Subcarbine for 1st Responders
|
|
by David Crane
[email protected]
The Compact Police Carbine (CPC) Model 556, by Arms Tech LTD is one cool little semi-auto 5.56mm carbine. Designed specifically for police 1st Responders (First Responders), the Arms Tech Compact Police Carbine (CPC) will provide patrol officers, including motorcycle officers with a handy 5.56x45mm subcarbine for 1) dealing with threats who are armed with rifles/carbines themselves and/or wearing up to NIJ level IIIa body armor, or 2) making high-risk traffic stops.
The CPC is short enough that the LEO (Law Enforcement Officer) can keep it pointed at the occupants inside the vehicle (that he's/she's just stopped) with one hand, while he/she checks the driver's (and any other vehicle occupant's) I.D./Driver's License, registration, and proof of insurance, with the other.
The Compact Police Carbine (CPC) is the semi-auto-only version of the Arms Tech Compak-16 5.56 subcarbine. DefRev got a chance to shoot the Compak-16 at SWAT Round-Up 2002, and we were impressed with it. You can read the article I wrote on it, titled...

DREAD Centrifuge Weapon System (Centrifuge Gun). Letters from the Inventor.
|
|
by David Crane
[email protected]
Some of our readers, after reading my article on the DREAD Centrifuge Weapon (Centrifuge Gun), titled World Exclusive Video! DREAD Weapon System: Devastating, Jam-Proof, and Silent., are under the impression that the DREAD creates a gyroscopic effect, or somehow acts like a gyroscope.
According to Charles St. George, the DREAD's inventor, the DREAD does NOT create/cause ANY gyroscopic forces or effects, whatsoever. To put it another way, the DREAD does NOT act like a gyroscope. So, the DREAD will NOT have ANY adverse effect on the mounting vehicle's maneuverability, even while the DREAD is being fired on its highest rpm and velocity settings. NO adverse effect. None, whatsoever. I can't make it any clearer than that.
Unlike a gyroscope, the DREAD has no...

Close Quarters Battle, Inc.: High-Risk Entry Combatives for Mil/LE Operators.
|
|
by David Crane
[email protected]
Chuck Habermehl, out of CQB, Inc. (Leesburg, FL), is currently providing some of the best High-Risk Entry combatives training in the country. Any military Special Operations unit or police/LE SWAT team looking for cutting edge CQB (Close Quarters Battle) and room-clearing techniques should give CQB, Inc. a very serious look. Mr. Habermehl teaches some very aggressive techniques that might be a little different from what the average team is used to, but are well worth learning. In his High-Risk Entry course, Habermehl teaches military and LE operators how to combine speed, surprise, and firepower with "violence of action".
Habermehl has developed his own fighting system called CloQuBa Ha-Jutsu, which he bills as "the only real true police fighting system in the world". Apparently, Habermehl has perfected the CloQuBa Ha-Jutsu system of fighting over a 30-year period. DefRev got the following off of the...

World's First .408 CheyTac Semi-Auto Rifle for Long-Range Interdiction
|
|
by David Crane
[email protected]
A short while back, DefRev published an article on the .408 CheyTAC M-200 "Intervention" Rifle for military Special Operations and police/LE SWAT long-range interdiction work. The article was titled .408 CheyTac Long-Range Interdiction Rifle Demo Video from AFJI Shoot-Out, and, true to its title, included a link to a video clip of the .408 CheyTac M-200 Intervention rifle being demonstrated at the Blackwater Shoot-Out.
CheyTac Associates, LLC. has just introduced a new semi-auto rifle chambered for the .408 CheyTac round, called the CheyTac M-400. The CheyTac M-400 rifle is gas-operated, and based on the AR-15 system (direct gas-impingement). It's definitely worth checking out. If you'd like to see the spec sheet/brochure (which contains a photo) on the CheyTac M-400 .408 CheyTac Semi-Auto Rifle, just...

U.S. Army Develops Lightweight, Flexible Solar Panels to Power Troops.
|
|
by David Crane
[email protected]
Just found this at "Wired News" (Wired.com). The U.S. Army Natick Soldier Center (a.k.a. Soldier Systems Center) is currently developing lightweight, flexible solar panels for troop tents and uniforms. The project's goal is to lighten our soldiers' loads and reduce their thermal signatures. Reducing thermal signature will help our troops to avoid detection by enemy forces.
Apparently, you can use these flexible solar panels to cover a tent and power everything inside. Panels developed by Iowa Thin Film Technologies are already being tested for this specific use. The solar panels are made from amorphous silicon thin film on plastic, and can...

World Exclusive Video! DREAD Weapon System: Devastating, Jam-Proof, and Silent.
|
|
by David Crane
[email protected]
The following article contains a link to the DREAD Weapon System Video. This is the first time this video has ever been shown to the public. The DREAD depicted in the video is a functional prototype that operates on a less-than-lethal mode. This prototype was dismantled for security purposes to protect the technology, after the making of this video. As of this posting, Defense Review (DefRev) is the ONLY publication in the WORLD that has any written materials or video footage, or any information whatsoever, for that matter, on this revolutionary new weapon system. You'll have to click on "Read More" (hypertext below) to view the complete article.
The Weapon
Imagine a gun with no recoil, no sound, no heat, no gunpowder, no visible firing signature (muzzle flash), and no stoppages or jams of any kind. Now imagine that this gun could fire .308 caliber and .50 caliber metal projectiles accurately at up to 8,000 fps (feet-per-second), enjoy an infinitely variable/programmable cyclic rate of fire (as high as 120,000 rounds-per-minute), and enjoy a 360 degree field of fire. What if you could mount this weapon on any military Humvee (HMMWV), any helicopter/gunship, any armored personnel carrier (APC), and any other vehicle for which the technology were applicable?
That would be something, wouldn't it? Some of you might be wondering, "how big would it be", or "how much would it weigh"? Others might want to know what it's ammunition capacity would be. These are all good questions, assuming of course that a weapon like this were actually possible.
According to its inventor, not only is it possible, its already happened. An updated version of the weapon will be available soon. It will arrive in the form of a...

Wilson Combat UT-15 Urban Tactical Rifle/Carbine: Fast and Light
|
|
by David Crane
[email protected]
The Wilson Combat UT-15 Urban Tactical Rifle/Carbine (with free-float, ventilated Quad Rail aluminum handguard) just received a rave review by Rich Grassi in the September 2004 issue of Guns & Weapons for Law Enforcement (GWLE). Mr. Grassi had some help in reviewing the Wilson UT-15 Urban Tactical carbine from Rob Child (SWAT operator, armorer, and firearms instructor), Andy Dale (SWAT operator and K9 handler), and Akim Reynolds (SWAT operator and narcotics investigator).
Grassi found the Wilson UT-15 Urban Tactical Rifle/Carbine to be accurate and reliable. He described the UT-15's trigger as follows, "The trigger is quite unlike anything I had in my (long past) military experience and is quite better than my stock AR-15 clone." Mr. Child and Mr. Dale also really liked UT-15's trigger, which they found to be light and smooth. Andy Dale accomplished 1 to 1.5-second facial hits, from ready, on a turning target. Rob Child was able to quickly shoot 14 rounds into the head of a...

5.11 Tactical Shirt: Tactical Casual for Training and Concealed Carry
|
|
by David Crane
[email protected]
Speaking of high quality tactical gear, DefRev has received two 5.11 Tactical Shirts (one beige, on O.D. green) for T&E.; We haven't had a chance to wear them around yet, but the quality of these shirts is quite evident, just from handling and inspecting them. These shirts appear to be really well put together.
The 5.11 Tactical Shirt is 100% cotton that looks like a safari-type shirt, or photographer's shirt. The first thing you notice on it are the...

MAXPEDITION Hard-Use Military-Spec Tactical Nylon Gear for Carrying Your Stuff
|
|
by David Crane
[email protected]
MAXPEDITION is definitely a company to watch. These guys are making some really great stuff right now, and I can't tell you how impressed I was with what I saw and handled at the MAXPEDITION booth at TREXPO West 2004. Well, maybe I can: I was extremely impressed. This was some of the best-made tactical nylon gear I've ever seen/handled. Very high quality.
Basically, everything at their booth looked and felt great. Before TREXPO, I had only really heard about the MAXPEDITION gear (and seen pictures of it), but I'd never actually seen or handled it in person. Boy, was I in for a pleasant surprise.
The items I spent the most time with at the MAXPEDITION booth were the backpacks. These looked really good. The MAXPEDITION Condor backpack is a...

Rohrbaugh R9/R9S Pistol: Pocket Pistol with 9mm Parabellum Power.
|
|
by David Crane
[email protected]
The Rohrbaugh R9/R9S pistol is a 9mm pocket pistol that bears more than a slight resemblance to the Seecamp LWS 32 .32 ACP pocket pistol and Kel-Tec CNC Industries Inc. P32 (.32 ACP) and P3AT (.380 ACP) pistols (except for the color). In fact, the Rohrbaugh R9S appears to be virtually identical in size to the P32 and P3AT, which can both be easily carried inside one's front pocket.
If you'd like to learn all about the Rohrbaugh R9/R9S pistol, DefRev advises you to...

Fractal Camouflage and New Digitized Tiger Stripe Camo Patterns
|
|
by David Crane
[email protected]
This is a follow-up to our article, "Fracture Camouflage: You can't hit what you can't see." DefRev spoke with Guy Cramer, the man behind Hyperstealth Biotechnology Corp.'s proprietary "Fracture Camouflage", last week. We found out that Mr. Cramer has additional camouflage patterns that utilize the same "proprietary graphics techniques" known as "Camouflage Designated Enhanced Fractal Geometry", or "C2G".
This "Camouflage Designated Enhanced Fractal Geometry", or "C2G", is currently being developed and marketed out of Boulder, Colorado by Guy Cramer's U.S. corporation (and Hyperstealth Biotechnology Corp.'s sister company), United Dynamics Corp. C2G, or Fracture Camouflage, actually...

Shiva Ki Custom 'Fightin' Bowie' Knife: Big, Fast, and Mean.
|
|
by David Crane
[email protected]
Back in January (2004), DefRev published an article on Shiva Ki Custom Knives. The article was titled "Tactical/Battle Blades for 21st Century Spec-Ops. Meet Shiva Ki". Shiva Ki is currently one of the best
fixed-blade fighting knife makers in the country. Shivas knives are also some of the sharpest in the world.
They cut like magic. So, we were proud to give him the ink.
Well, Shiva's just come out with a true fighting bowie knife called appropriately and simply enough, "Fightin' Bowie".
Believe it or not, your's truly actually
inspired Shiva to create this particular knife. I pestered him, really. You see, my personal opinion is that a true bowie knife, especially one designed specificaly for fighting/combat, absolutely has to have a sharpened back clip. It's also my opinion that longer is better (up to a point--excuse the pun), provided one can keep the knife light and perfectly balanced, which Shiva can. The blade on the Shiva Ki "Fightin Bowie" knife is 13 inches (false guard to tip), which is right about the blade-length limit for a bowie knife. Yes, this is a BIG knife. But, Shiva told me it's properly balanced, so it still feels light and is extremely fast in the hand. And, yes, the "Fightin Bowie's" back clip is fully-sharpened.
Part of what makes the bowie knife so formidable in a fight is it's...

FN MK48 MOD 0 7.62mm Lightweight Machine Gun for U.S. Military Spec-Ops/SpecWar
|
|
by David Crane
[email protected]
United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) is in the process of adopting the FN MK48 MOD 0 7.62mm Lightweight Machine Gun (LWMG) as it's new 7.62x51mm machine gun. Basically, the MK48 MOD 0 is a beefed-up version of the FN MK46 MOD 0 5.56 LMG/SAW (Light Machine Gun/Squad Automatic Weapon), a MK46 MOD 0 on steroids, if you will. For those not aware, the MK46 MOD 0 is a modified version fo the FN M249 SAW that's been optimized for Spec-Ops/SpecWar applications. The Special Operations community needed a 5.56x45mm LMG/SAW for their specific applications. So far, according to DefRev's understanding, U.S. Special Operations (specifically, Naval Special Warfare) feedback on the MK46 MOD 0 has been positive.
So, the new FN MK48 MOD 0 machine gun will give U.S. military SpecWar operators 7.62x51mm punch combined with MK46-like weight and handling qualities. Perhaps not quite (the MK48 MOD 0 is a little larger and heavier), but close. Let's put it this way, the FN MK48 MOD 0 LWMG is a much lighter-weight and better-handling package than the...

StunStrike CQSR (Close Quarters Shock Rifle) by XADS: Futuristic Stun Gun Tech
|
|
by David Crane
[email protected]
Firearm News" syndicated a news.com.au article yesterday that discusses a new class of less-lethal/non-lethal stun gun called the StunStrike CQSR (Close Quarters Shock Rifle). The StunStrike CQSR, designed/developed by Xtreme Alternative Defense Systems (XADS), does away with wires as the electric-shock delivery system (a la Taser), and instead uses some kind of electrified plasma or an electified ion stream (I forget exactly how Pete Bitar/XADS phrased/described it). The news.com.au article, by the way, is titled New stun gun uses UV laser.
Today Noah Shactman published his own article on the technology on his website, DefenseTech.org. Noah's article is titled Next-Gen Stun Guns Target Crowds. The article contains a bunch of links, one of which is a link to an article titled "Sweeping stun guns to target crowds" that NewScientist.com published yesterday.
DefRev spoke with Pete Bitar, President/CEO of Xtreme Alternative Defense Systems (XADS), on the phone, yesterday. Pete informed us that...
