Funko Pop!

From Transformers Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Pop! is a multi-property brand of non-transforming, mostly static super deformed vinyl figures made by Funko, launched in 2011 and based on all sorts of franchises from popular culture, including (but in no way limited to) Marvel Comics, DC Comics, Star Wars and G.I. Joe. Pop! vinyls normally measure around 4 inches tall, but there are also larger, "Jumbo"-scaled figures that are 10 inches tall, as well as smaller "Keychain" versions and a plethora of merchandise based on the brand's, ahem, unique aesthetic.

The brand first released Transformers figures in a very small number in 2014, but has since released a much more constant flux of products beginning in 2020. Featured characters have been based on both Generation 1 and the live-action film series.

Main lines of vinyl figures

Pop! Movies

A small collection of regular vinyl figures based on characters from Age of Extinction was released in 2014 as part of the Movies segment of the brand.

Rise of the Beasts

Years later, in 2023, the Movies segment made a comeback to Transformers as a tie-in with the theatrical release of Rise of the Beasts.

Pop! Retro Toys

Beginning in late 2020, the Retro Toys segment features Transformers characters directly based on toys from the original Generation 1 toyline, with one notable exception inspired by the Classics toyline instead.

Pop! Digital

Sigh.

The Digital vinyls are just like the Retro Toys above, but could only be acquired through the unholy means of collecting and redeeming NFTs. More specifically, one has to redeem either a Legendary or Grail token, or get them by completing the entire series.

Pop! Digital Retro Toys

Big sigh.

A different segment from the one above, these limited edition vinyls represent Mr. Potato Head cosplaying as Transformers characters, and unfortunately also come with corresponding NFTs.

How did we get here is anyone's guess.

Pop! Funko

The following vinyls are exclusive to Funko-oriented events.

Pop! Television

Don't let the name of this segment fool you. These vinyls are still very much based on Generation 1 toys just like the Retro Toys above, rather than being inspired by the cartoon as one would typically assume.

Other lines of products

Currently, all other merchandise made by Funko are based on the same Generation 1 toy aesthetic as the Retro Toys segment.

And then there's all those dreaded NFTs

Pop! Digital

Not content with dead-eyed, top-heavy figurines, Funko turned its hand to burning down rainforests, introducing Pop! Digital Transformers X Funko in 2022. This segment features Non-Fungible Tokens, or NFTs for short (or "a collection of 'bigger fool' scams, get-rich-quick scams, ponzi schemes, rug-pulls, and environmental disasters" to be more accurate), of short animated clips of various vinyl figures, as well as a limited series of physical vinyl figures.

But wait! These NFTs are on the "safe" and "secure" Droppp platform built on WAX, a certified """carbon-neutral""" blockchain![1] But you'll still despise them because that's a huge steaming load.

The digital NFTs were distributed in both standard and premium packs limited to 18,750 each, with the former containing five tokens and the latter fifteen (for three times the price, of course); Different tokens had different rarities with which they appeared, thus adding the scumminess of gacha/lootbox games to the whole proceeding—because when you're making an excrement sundae, why not just pile it on?

    • 1 Of 1: These have a 0.008% chance of being drawn in a standard pack and a 0.025% chance in a premium pack. Only one each of these were minted.
    • Grail: These have a .28% chance of being drawn and can be redeemed for a chance of earning a physical collectible. They were limited to 999 pieces each.
    • Legendary: These have a 1.27% chance of being drawn (for either pack type) and can be redeemed for a chance of earning a physical collectible. They were limited to 1550 pieces each.
    • Epic: These have a 7.99% chance of being drawn as part of the "royalty collection".
    • Rare: These have a 14.03% chance of being drawn as part of the "royalty collection".

As mentioned above, a separate segment saw the release of more NFTs, this time based on nightmarish depictions of Mr. Potato Head.

Notes

  • All Age of Extinction-based Pop! merchandise is rated 14+. We don't know why.
