Establishes metrics, provides data analyses, and works directly to support business intelligence. Evaluates industry, economic, financial, and market trends to forecast the organization's short, medium and long-term financial and competitive position. The Actuary, Analytics/Forecasting works on problems of diverse scope and complexity ranging from moderate to substantial.The Actuary, Analytics/Forecasting ensures data integrity by developing and executing necessary processes and controls around the flow of data. Collaborates with stakeholders to understand business needs/issues, troubleshoots problems, conducts root cause analysis, and develops cost effective resolutions for data anomalies. Advises executives to develop functional strategies (often segment specific) on matters of significance. Exercises independent judgment and decision making on complex issues regarding job duties and related tasks, and works under minimal supervision, Uses independent judgment requiring analysis of variable factors and determining the best course of action.As Actuary on the Unit Cost Analysis and Management team within Humana's Provider Analytics organization, you will enable sustainable growth and support Humana's Health First purpose by executing and enhancing unit cost projection processes, primarily focused on our Medicare Advantage business.

Responsibilities expected to include:Assessing annual CMS regulations regarding how Original Medicare pays providers, including deep-dive analyses into particular areas of complexityIncorporating the impacts of contractual variations on unit cost trendsParticipating in expanded use in Medicare of relevant components of the Medicaid Unit Cost Model on Azure Synapse Analytics, winner of the 2023 Actuarial Innovation Contest and the 2023 PALS Awards Most Advanced categoryCreating new processes for actual-to-expected analysisCreating new processes to estimate the impact of mix-of-services and mix-of-providers on overall unit cost trendsDeveloping strong collaborative relationships with other downstream actuarial teams, ensuring that our estimates are on a basis and granularity to make them the most useful to consume alongside other trend assumptionsUse your skills to make an impact Required QualificationsBachelor's DegreeFSA or ASA plus relevant advanced degree, recent and relevant work experience, and/or other relevant professional designations.MAAAStrong communication skillsExperience in more than two functions (e.g., modeling, pricing, rate filing, reporting & analysis, reserving or trending)Strong SQL skills based on usage on any platform (SQL Server, Oracle, SAS, R, etc.)Strong in-depth analysis skillsPrior experience analyzing detailed medical claims dataExperience successfully leading cross-team projects, influencing teams, and adapting to input from othersPreferred QualificationsExperience organizing complex SQL code via stored procedures and functions with SQL Server and/or the use of Azure Synapse AnalyticsExperience with use of code control via Git or other methodsExperience interacting with various trend components and the avoidance of overlap/double-countingExperience with Medicare Advantage bid processAdditional InformationScheduled Weekly Hours40Pay RangeThe compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.$126,800 - $174,500 per yearThis job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan.
