The Payroll Manager is responsible for overseeing compliance, management, administration, and system integrations/updates of payroll for a leading hotel management company consisting of corporate payroll and over 100 hotels. The position requires an exceptional level of accuracy and a high level of confidentiality. The individual must be able to keep current with the ever-changing legal environment, be an exceptional communicator, and have strong technical and analytical skills. The individual directs the activities of the payroll specialist(s) and works closely with other departments in achievements of goals and tasks. The position develops and controls all tasks necessary to accomplish the organization's payroll processing objectives, including relationships with internal and external auditors, vendors and state and federal agencies.
Key Duties And Responsibilities
Oversee the input and processing of accurate payrolls and Timekeeping systems through Proliant and NOVAtime, both weekly and bi-weekly hotels
Ensure verification and reconciliation of all payroll data
Manage and communicate payroll related issues to the hotels and corporate office
Ensure compliance with all federal and state regulations regarding tax laws, retirement funds, social security benefits, etc. Aid upper management in enforcing compliance on all these items
Remain current and interpret new legislation and regulatory rulings impacting payroll. Enforce adherence to requirements and advise management on required actions
Identify, investigate and/or resolve payroll issues as they arise
Respond to customer inquiries in a friendly, professional and clearly understood manner
Establish audit procedures for payroll at the hotels and corporate office
Work with corporate accounting, tax, human resources and upper management to address matters relating to payroll services
Ensure compliance to all CHR Standard Operating Procedures and ensure they are updated regularly
Establish and direct payroll internal controls with the emphasis on maintaining data integrity, security, as well as process design/compliance and improvement
Processing and reviewing of all garnishments, levies and child support orders including initial review of the notice, verification of the proper garnishment of wages, and remittance of payments to the appropriate governmental agencies
Reviewing and responding to inquiries from tax agencies
Supervision of the filing of all new hire reporting information for each state
Manage payroll related functions related to year-end management incentive bonuses
Administer annual W-2 processes and procedures
Proactively participate in cross-functional projects by identifying and recommending changes that streamline technology solutions
Develop and maintain internal training materials for the payroll products used by Crestline.
Responsible for training and onboarding new team members responsible for handling payroll at the property level
Assist with any audit requests from external and/or internal auditors.
Education And Experience
College Degree Required.
Minimum 5 years related experience in payroll and Corporate environment.
Experience in multi-state/multi entity payroll required.
Ability to convey information and ideas clearly.
Ability to analyze and evaluate information, recommending alternatives and solutions.
Strong technical skills (payroll system, excel, word, power point).
Ability to work under pressure.
Proven attention to detail/accuracy.
Customer Service focus.
Exceptional organizational skills.
Must be able to work independently, have knowledge of all payroll functions and can effectively deal with internal and external customers.
