Job Summary

Croda is seeking a skilled and self-motivated MS Specialist in the spectroscopy lab of innovation support and claim substantiation (ISCS) group. The position, located at our Atlas Point site, requires a self-starter who will support the development of new products and applications through the use of various MS techniques such as Orbitrap, QTOF, MALDI and QQQ. Perform all duties within the guidelines of Company’s safety, health & environmental regulations. All other duties as assigned by management.

Key Duties

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate understanding of the principles and application of liquid (and ideally, gas) chromatography and their role in method development. Being able to develop LC-MS method and interpret MS spectra as well as MS/MS fragmentation patterns.
  • Being able to design experiment, keep track of both short-term and long-term MS projects and communicate with internal customers about the timeline and suggest path forward.
  • Being an internal subject matter expert in the MS area, being able to interact and suggest analytical solutions using MS as a tool to different sectors such as life science and consumer care. Excellent presentation and communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills, with an ability to evaluate and generate data on new software and hardware applications, through external collaborations with relevant instrument vendors and subject matter experts.
  • Capable of developing a strong network of external collaborators through active involvement in professional organizations (both locally and nationally). Being able to connect Croda with external MS community to provide solutions through open innovation ideas.
  • Being able to maintain various in-house MS instruments from different vendors such as MALDI, Q-TOF, Orbitrap and QQQ.
  • Potentially to travel around 10-20%.

Qualifications

Education and Training:

Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry with expertise in MS techniques such as MALDI, Orbitrap, QTOF and QQQ.

Knowledge And Experience

  • Knowledge of natural product chemistry, enzymatic catalysis, bioprocessing, sustainable and green chemistry is highly desirable.
  • Solid background in organic chemistry and analytical chemistry and being able to perform MS/MS experiments and perform structure elucidation using various MS techniques.
  • Familiarity with modern software data interpretation techniques and complex sets of data.
  • Familiar with MS imaging techniques such as DESI, MALDI, LAESI ionization techniques and background in MS imaging with proven publication records is a plus.
  • Previous experience in GC-MS and sample introduction techniques and GC-MS/MS is a plus.

Skills And Abilities

  • Proven ability to work both independently and in a team environment; drive to complete tasks according to agreed schedules and the needs of the business.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through both written reports and verbal presentations.

Physical Demands

Able to walk, stand or sit for a minimum of 8 hours per day. Must be able to lift 30 pounds.
