General Description


As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will utilize your comprehensive knowledge of materials, mechanical principles, and engineering methods to design, integrate, and improve manufacturing systems and processes. Your role involves supporting and training others with minimal oversight, resolving issues, increasing productivity, and reducing costs across various departments. You may also engage in ancillary manufacturing functions such as BOM, automation, inventory management, and special projects for factory expansion.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Assist Manufacturing Engineering (ME) technicians and production support staff in achieving departmental goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of proper terminology used within the organization and marine industry.
  • Apply comprehensive drafting knowledge to interpret and apply dimensional relationships, with a working knowledge of tolerances in the manufacturing process.
  • Review work instructions for clarity and recommend changes or rewrites if necessary.
  • Assist in rapid prototyping or procurement of essential shop aides and generate new applications for the technology.
  • Provide technical expertise to solve recurring problems related to the design of tooling, jigs, and fixtures.
  • Support the manufacturing team in resolving persistent production area issues.
  • Participate in daily shop floor Gemba (Go, See, Do) activities.
  • Investigate recurring quality issues in assembly using problem-solving methods and support other departments.
  • Support key process indicators such as downtime, efficiency, and cost controls. Interpret data, monitor trends, and recommend solutions.
  • Identify and implement improvement opportunities through self-directed ideas, utilizing proper resources and approval routes.
  • Support activities such as 5S, material handling improvements, production line configuration, and safety procedures.
  • Learn and apply manufacturing tools and concepts like Value Stream Mapping (VSM), Kaizen, and line balancing for continuous improvement.
  • Utilize basic data analytical tools to study trends.
  • Be willing to travel as needed for specialty training, trade shows, etc. (international travel may be required).
  • Develop effective presentations and demonstrate the ability to speak and present in front of groups or VIPs.


Minimum Educational Requirements


  • BSME / BSMET or equivalent preferred from an ABET accredited program.
  • 3-6 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment, marine preferred.
  • Ability to interpret and create technical drawings, GD&T fundamental understanding a plus.
  • Direct experience in implementing lean manufacturing principles and ergonomic process design, Value Stream Mapping, etc.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including PowerPoint & Excel.
  • Fundamental knowledge in statistical analysis and project management; ability to understand and define critical paths and work to reduce lead times is a plus.
