Qualifications

Minimum of 10 year(s) of experience in Historic Architecture or related OR MA/MS Degree in Historic Architecture or related

  • Significant experience providing guidance on complex historic preservation issues that is professionally competent and in accordance with relevant laws, policies and standards; experience developing, writing and executing projects focused on the study, documentation and assessment of historic structures; knowledge of technical review of existing documentation of historic structures and knowledge of traditional building techniques and materials.
  • Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel
  • Adobe CS (preferred, not required), AutoCAD (preferred, not required)

Duties

Provide technical knowledge in support of unique planning, research, and monitoring projects.

  • Prepare an updated historic structure report (HSR) for the ca. 1892 historic structure report for Appomattox Plantation (also called Manor) located at the Grant?s Headquarters at City Point unit of Petersburg National Battlefield. Perform primary and secondary documentary research and physical investigation and evaluation, and the resultant historic structure report will document the building fully and guide all management decisions and treatments. 70%
  • Provide technical review of existing architectural documentation of Appomattox Manor, Petersburg National Battlefield to develop a research methodology that will expand on the existing knowledge of the architectural evolution of Appomattox Manor. 20%
  • Other projects, reports or studies as identified by HACE. 10%

  • Health and Safety Considerations: Guidance and training will be provided on-site to ensure that enrollee is fully aware of health and safety considerations (every site is different and will involve different safety precautions and equipment). PPE will be provided, where necessary.
  • Required Safety Gear: PPE may include, but is not limited to hard hats, face masks, gloves, safety glasses, and other gear necessary to ensure that the enrollee is prepared to work in varied environments.
  • Physical requirements: Ability to work in varied and extreme environments, walk in rugged terrain and work in confined spaces.
  • Remote work arrangements are available for this position.
