Position Summary:

The Product Design Engineer will bridge the Customer and Cooper Standard, focusing on the design and development of weather strip designs in the residential HVAC market. The role includes leading engineering activities such as Design Reviews, 3D data, drawings, prototypes, and testing. Responsibilities also encompass program team meetings, supplier reviews, and manufacturing plant events.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Expertise in GD&T, DFMEA, DVP&R, DMAIC, and 8D.
  • Manage multiple complex programs across regions and product lines.
  • Understand internal and customer manufacturing and design processes.
  • Support and develop best practices.
  • Execute customer requirements to meet strategic objectives.
  • Release engineering change requests.
  • Lead program and design reviews.
  • Provide cost-effective input to auto-quote processes
  • Validate products and analyze root causes of failures.
  • Ensure designs meet all requirements and manage exceptions.
  • Interface with customers, design teams, manufacturing plants, testing, sales, program management, purchasing, and suppliers.
  • Manage program design status and timelines.
  • Validate products on-site at customer locations.
  • Maintain program data and engineering documents in the Product Life Cycle Management system.


Education and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering is required, BSME preferred.
  • Five or more years of experience in commercial HVAC weather strip design and development.
  • ASHRAE Certifications are a plus.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in engineering disciplines.
  • Knowledge of customer and internal APQP processes.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD software and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to assess design alternatives and prioritize tasks.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary.


Work Environment/Conditions:

  • Professional office environment.
  • Personal protective equipment required on the manufacturing floor.
  • 25% travel with Sales Team to trade shows and customer locations.
  • Proper training on equipment usage.
