Accounting Director

The Office of the CFO is conducting an internal recruit for a Director of Accounting. The Accounting Director is responsible for the oversight, direction, and management of the Accounts Payable Department. They will ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations, maintain internal controls, support audits, and mitigate financial risk. This position requires a strong understanding of government accounting principles, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to manage complex financial systems and processes. The Accounting Director will report to the Deputy Controller. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the day-to-day accounting operations of the accounts payable department, including, leading the month-end and annual closing processes for the department
  • Oversees lease accounting ensuring ASC842 standard and accuracy in lease calculations and treatments and reconciliation
  • Manage yearly accruals for completeness and accuracy
  • Support intercompany consolidations and intercompany expense processing ensuring best practices are implemented
  • Manage the accounts payable department, including leading hiring, training, mentoring, and performance evaluations of staff
  • Oversee the processing of vendor invoices, employee expense reports and travel advances, and other payables, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies and procedures
  • Develop and implement accounting strategies and processes that align with the company’s goals and objectives, with an emphasis on developing new Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to provide financial guidance and insights supporting business decisions
  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records, including supervision and approval of monthly, annual reconciliations and year-end activities
  • Research and implement best practice to comply with evolving government, client (USAID), and GAAP standards
  • Lead development and implementation of process improvement initiatives across all accounting systems and functions
  • Collaborate with external auditors and tax advisors for regulatory and client compliance
  • Lead cross-team and division collaboration to ensure best practices cascade through all accounting teams and functions via the accounting business function network
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements in the account payable functions, streamline and implement automated solutions to increase efficiency and accuracy
  • Identify and mitigate financial risks to the company
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 8+ years accounting experience required; public accounting experience preferred
  • CPA preferred, but not required
  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience and leading team
  • Experience with accounting/financial software required. Microsoft Dynamics D365 experience preferred
  • Experience leading accounting process improvement initiatives in an ERP environment strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of finance & accounting business processes such as close and consolidations, internal and external financial reporting, and account reconciliations required
  • Ability to work in a cross-functional, multi-cultural team environment across multiple levels of management
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, planning, interpersonal, and organizational skills required
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
  • Knowledge of U.S. GAAP and IFRS required
  • Knowledge of USG finance and accounting standards preferred, Knowledge of USAID highly preferred
  • Willingness to travel for 4-8 weeks annually preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility and integrity

The Salary Range for this position is expected to be: $103,680 - $129,600.

An employee’s pay position will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, performance, shift, travel requirements, and business or organizational needs.

Overtime exemption status may change due to state regulatory requirements.
