Marine Engineer - Cruise Vessels

The Marine Engineer - Cruise Vessels, is considered the Subject Matter Expert (SME) regarding cruise ships' classification and statutory requirements. The primary function is to examine and report on cruise vessels during and after construction relative to compliance with the applicable requirements for maintaining the vessel and meeting associated statutory and special services. In addition, the Engineer ensures safety guidelines are being closely followed by the vessel owner and operator to ensure the safety of guests onboard the ship.


Responsibilities

  • Acts as a professional specialist for the organization in applying related rules, regulations, requirements, concepts, principles, and processes.
  • Performs routine surveys on classed cruise vessels to ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
  • Conducts reviews of ship systems in an orderly and up-to-date manner around responsibility.
  • Maintains an active awareness of new methods and developments affecting the technical scope of assigned responsibilities.
  • Assist in establishing the review or survey process to ensure safey of the ship and its occupants..
  • Recommends new approaches to problems encountered and changes methods, procedures, or design where necessary.
  • Plans, schedules, and coordinates various phases of surveying work and monitoring the quality of service on work performed.


Requirements

  • Degree in a relevant engineering field.
  • Experience operating at the Principal Engineer level or above.
  • At least eight (8) years of experience in the design or plan review of cruise vessels.
  • Prior experience in the maritime industry.
  • Prior engineering experience with Cruise Ships, Vessels, or Ocean Liners.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)

  • Detailed knowledge and experience about classification and statutory requirements associated with structural fire protection, active fire protection, and lifesaving appliances.
  • Detailed knowledge of the United States Coast Guard (USCG) requirements as a port state for cruise vessels.
  • Knowledge of evacuation modeling preferred.


Location

This position could be based in Miami, Florida or Houston, Texas.
