This position will be a hybrid work arrangement, which translates to 2-3 days minimum per week in the office.

HarbourVest is looking to add a VP, Assistant Treasurer reporting to the Managing Director, Treasurer of the firm. The individual in the new role will accelerate the transformation of the center-of-excellence (COE) for global treasury operations. The role will be a part of the Treasury leadership team and will develop an in-depth, comprehensive understanding of operations across the entire 35-person HarbourVest Treasury organization. To do so, this individual must bring a differentiated set of skills not only to identify not only the operational needs associated with the accelerated growth of global payments, but also to equip Treasury with new capabilities to be best positioned for new market opportunities.

In addition to being a change-agent, the individual will be leading the time-sensitive daily activities for a team of up to 10 professionals, while interacting with firm-wide functional teams. The individual will lead the following key areas of responsibilities:

  • Drive operational improvements within specific roadmaps for critical activities including but not limited the areas of cash and liquidity management, short term investments, foreign exchange execution, banking services and overall bank wallet for fees and expenses.
  • Partner with the Treasury Infrastructure team and Information Technology to ensure global banking connectivity and services are fully implemented and optimized, as well as to evaluate emerging payment technologies, products and services.
  • Coordinate with the transactional pillars for various investment strategies (primary and secondary transactions, direct co-investments, and private credit participations) to ensure investment deployment and capital operations for our LP investors are performed flawlessly.
  • Provide thought-leadership on operational risk management initiatives and lead the development of multiple treasury operational controls, policies & procedures such as cash management, short-term investment, payment fraud prevention, etc.
  • Develop and implement standardized daily, monthly and quarterly cash forecasting models across multiple fund platforms and multiple fund types, including corporate cash for HarbourVest’s management company and global subsidiaries.
  • Partner with the MD, Treasurer and Head of Capital Markets to cultivate strong banking relationships.
  • Maintain a high degree of engagement and develop the skills of the team, including goal setting, performance reviews and periodic meetings with team members and peers.
  • Explore mentorship opportunities in order to support and provide recognition for the daily operations of the Treasury function.
  • Identify and engage with key partners in order to position the team for successful contributions to cross-functional initiatives.

Other Responsibilities will include:

  • Design and implement a strategic vision in treasury operations that align with the growth of the firm.
  • Develop a roadmap to meet operating objectives, including but not limited to modeling improvements, KPls, and measuring the efficiency and impact of the team.
  • Develop and recommend short and long-range organizational structures, build a premier operations team and ensure succession plans.
  • Lead improvement initiatives for the business unit, orchestrating the strategic approach, communications, analytics, tactical engagement models, and performance targets.
  • Provide overall direction, guidance, and support to the MD, Treasurer and the rest of the Treasury leadership team.
  • Devise and implement appropriate policies and processes and bring subject-matter expertise and efficiency for Treasury operations.
  • Identify operational inefficiencies and map out key processes for resolving issues and challenges.
  • Deliver workflow reengineering projects by outlining comprehensive objectives, obtaining approval and designing appropriate roadmap to execution.
  • Collaborate to develop and implement forward looking proposals for the operational infrastructure of systems and processes designed to accommodate the rapid growth of the firm.

The ideal candidate would possess extensive operational and technical expertise, as well as be savvy both analytically and building teams. The individual will be able to operate at a leadership level, while also demonstrating an appetite to engage with detail and innovate process on a tactical level. The individual will be a respectful but nonetheless candid influencer and communicator, capable of understanding and handling the diverse requirements of numerous partners and bringing these together through coherent and convincing direction.

The ideal candidate will be a “treasury athlete”, preferably with experience in investment management, private markets, open ended or SEC-registered investment vehicles, as well as wealth management channels. Additionally, the candidate will have a consistent track record for developing the following:

  • Deep global treasury operations experience scaling treasury operations through technology (e.g., implementing or running Treasury workstations, SWIFT messaging, money-center bank portals, etc.)
  • Streamlining, redefining and digitizing processes for improved efficiency, as well as a proven ability to think strategically and implement change to improve upon operational processes (e.g., foreign exchange execution).
  • Quantitative capabilities to guide the development of models to provide insight on banking products and services (e.g., short term investment opportunities).
  • System experience and capabilities with a suite of IT platforms, such as a treasury workstation (FIS Integrity) and various software solutions (e.g., PowerBI, Alteryx)
  • Strong relationship skills, both internally and externally with interpersonal and consultative communication skills and well-developed presentation skills.
  • Superior ability to attract, engage, develop and retain talent.

  • Strong work ethic, intellectual honesty and curiosity.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Arts (B.A), Bachelor of Science (B.S) or equivalent experience required.
  • Master of Business Administration (MBA) or Master of Science (M.S) or equivalent experience preferred.
  • 10+ year experience in Treasury operations role, preferably in a senior management or leadership role.
