Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and oversight for the entire surgical services department, including inpatient OR, outpatient surgery, pre-operative services, and post-operative care units.
• Champion patient-centered care, fostering a culture of collaboration and teamwork among surgeons, nurses, anesthesia providers, and all surgical staff.
• Develop and implement comprehensive surgical services programs that meet the needs of the community, ensuring high-quality, cost-effective care.
• Oversee all aspects of clinical operations, maintaining compliance with regulatory standards, accreditation requirements, and best practices.
• Recruit, onboard, and retain high-performing surgical staff, fostering a positive and supportive work environment.
• Manage departmental budget and resources effectively, demonstrating strong financial acumen and the ability to analyze data for informed decision-making.
• Develop and implement efficient operational processes, optimizing workflows and ensuring efficient patient flow throughout the surgical journey.
• Foster strong relationships with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and other key stakeholders to promote collaboration and continuous improvement.
• Stay current on advancements in surgical best practices and technologies, integrating them into departmental protocols.
• Lead departmental quality initiatives, actively participating in clinical audits and implementing evidence-based practices.
• Oversee infection control measures and ensure a safe and sterile surgical environment.
• Champion staff development by providing mentorship opportunities and supporting continuing education initiatives.
  
  

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Nursing (MSN) or healthcare administration (MHA) preferred; Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) with significant leadership experience required.
• Active RN license in the state of Iowa.
• BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.
• Minimum of five years of experience in the operating room (OR) setting, with a proven track record of success in a leadership role.
• Strong understanding of surgical procedures, best practices, and infection control protocols.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire teams.
• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive relationships with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and staff.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and implement solutions to operational challenges.
• Experience with budgeting, financial management, and cost-containment strategies.
• Proficiency in healthcare information systems (HIS) and electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
