The Tippie College of Business is seeking an Assistant Director, Tippie Graduate Career Services, who creates and implements the vision and strategy for the career services function for professional MBA students. This includes the online Iowa MBA program, part-time Business Analytics program and certificate seeking students. Including delivery of a personalized approach to career coaching and innovative career education and training programs to maximize students’ career potential. The Assistant Director will work collaboratively with the professional MBA program team, particularly the site directors who are responsible for the student experience, as well the Tippie College of Business Career Services Unit.

Please Note: This position will have the ability to work 2 days in the office and 3 days remote.

Key Areas Of Responsibilities And Specific Job Tasks

Career Coaching & Skill Development

  • Provides personalized career coaching, feedback, and development assistance to professional MBA students through the lifecycle of the program. This includes: 1) leading individual coaching sessions to assist in resume development, interview preparation, and job search strategy, 2) planning and implementing education and training activities via the web or on-site, 3) selection and utilization of external training tools and systems that may support the students in managing their careers.
  • Research key industry trends and opportunities affecting MBA hiring and utilizes information when coaching students and creating career education and training programming.


Partnerships

  • Builds and maintains strong working relationships with Tippie College of Business directors and faculty in their respective industry/functional areas to ensure working knowledge of business and changes that may affect the students’ job search or career trajectory.
  • Partners with the Tippie Graduate Career Services Managing Director and staff to share best practices, systems, and tools to support students and each other.
  • Participation in employer engagement activities to help build corporate relationships.
  • Utilizes the Iowa alumni network and partner employers to act as a resource for building industry/ function knowledge as well as for individual students.


Student Experience

  • Attendance at occasional evening & weekend student experience, networking, employer, alumni, and general program events.
  • Participation in commencement activities including attending ceremonies and assisting with event planning when needed.


Planning

  • Develops the strategic and annual plans for the career services function for the Professional MBA Program. Other Key Responsibilities
  • Embraces new approaches and continuous improvement to drive results, supports a culture of optimism, collaboration, and proactive problem solving, and plays a key role in helping the Graduate Professional Programs’ portfolio to be successful.

Hybrid within Iowa: This position is eligible for hybrid work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location.

Salary: $50,000-$60,000

Position Qualifications

Education Requirement

  • Master’s Degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience.


Required Qualifications

  • Typically 1-5 years demonstrated experience in progressive career services and career coaching and /or related corporate experience.
  • Proven track record of strategic planning and effective implementation with a focus on results.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills; passion for partnering closely with students, colleagues, faculty, alumni and the employer community.
  • Demonstrated customer service focus complemented by an innovative outlook.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must possess a valid US driver’s license and be able to meet and maintain UI Fleet Safety Standards.
  • Professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives and demonstrated experience working effectively in a welcoming and respectful workplace environment.


Desired Qualifications

  • Considerable (3-5 years) demonstrated experience in progressive career services function and career coaching for business students and /or related corporate experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of the MBA marketplace desirable.
