Position Summary

Under general direction, this position is responsible for claims management of a US-based claims team for an automotive manufacturer. This position manages a turnkey operation, which includes various types of services relating to transportation claims, parts claims, trailer claims, and damage vehicle operations. This position is expected to focus on process improvement, customer relations, and accurate disposition of damage and loss claims, collections, and performance metrics.

Position Responsibilities: Include but are not limited to the following:

  • Interfacing with high-level management at OEM customer (headquartered in Detroit, MI metro region) primarily through web meetings.
  • Implementing programs to continuously improve claims management processes. Achieving target performance metrics provided by customer and providing weekly/monthly/annual reports to both customer and VASCOR management.
  • Maintain and follow existing ISO 9001 standards for the claims team. Assist in customer audits, ISO audits, and company SOX-based audits, as needed.
  • Resolving all types of collection or process issues between carriers, inspection companies, yard management companies, and the OEM. Interface with the insurance company regarding specific damage and loss claims. Expected to understand the escalation process for OEM involvement and be able to negotiate with suppliers when directed by OEM.
  • Manage and improve DVO (in transit repair) process, working with OEM customer service and various outside parties to ensure timely repair and disposition of vehicles.
  • Interface with OEM accounting department and provide weekly/monthly/annual transaction reports for reconciliation.
  • Ability to read, understand and apply legal and contractual principles to claims events on behalf of the OEM.
  • Interfacing with VASCOR IT, supplier IT, and OEM IT to resolve interface issues and determine where additional interfaces may be applied to streamline processes.
  • Continuously train and improve employee business skills. Maintain work instructions for all job functions and participate in industry meetings.
  • This position is hybrid; however, occasional travel (approximately once per quarter) may be needed to meet with customer personnel or other claims partners, meet with VASCOR management and team members, or possibly represent VASCOR at industry events.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of OEM turnkey claims department.
  • Must be able to manage employees and maintain customer and supplier relationships.
  • Responsibilities will include interviewing, hiring, and training employees.
  • Appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints, and resolving problems for employees and customer.

Education

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred; Associate degree required.

Training

  • Working knowledge of the transportation and warranty claims process within the automotive and general freight industries.
  • Knowledgeable regarding the legal and regulatory issues related to claims.
  • An understanding of accounting principles.

Skills

  • Ability to manage people
  • Strong negotiation skills, and ability to build and maintain supplier relationships.
  • Experience working with body shops and an understanding of the estimating process and damage thresholds.
  • Catastrophic claim processing, automotive claims processing, freight claim processing, and warranty claim processing.

Experience

  • At least ten years management experience. Managing a claims department preferred.
  • Automotive experience is a must, with an understanding or experience in processing and resolving claims for all parties involved, including OEMs, carriers, port processors, and inspection companies

Nonessential Skills And Experience

Reporting to this position: Employees working on external customer account for claims analysis, DVO process, dealer hotline, data analysis, and accounting.

On The Job The Employee Must

Have natural or corrected eyesight capable of working daily at a computer workstation in office lighting.

Have normal range of hearing, or corrected hearing, to be able to respond to normal workplace sounds including alarm systems in the workplace.

  • Physical demands: Typing, using and carrying a laptop, walking, carrying light files and driving.
  • Work environment: Predominantly an office environment. This position will have little travel but must be able to travel if necessary. Expected to be professional in manner and dress code. This position will be guided mainly by OEM office policies.
