Position Summary

The Finance Director leads the accounting and revenue cycle management teams in sustaining healthy fiscal stewardship and management of Washburn Center for Children’s diverse revenue streams and financial management systems. The Finance Director is a collaborative partner with agency leaders, employees, and the Board of Trustees in providing expert counsel regarding the financial performance of the organization. The Finance Director works with the Chief Administrative Officer to guide financial planning, monitoring and reporting, business planning, and negotiation.


The Finance Director principal responsibilities include people leadership; budgeting; general accounting; revenue cycle management; financial planning and analysis; treasury management; investment management; risk management; supplier diversity; and equity, diversity, and inclusion. Key outcomes include: building a disciplined framework for productivity and analysis; preparation of all financial reporting, forecasts and budgets; managing cash flow and debt requirements to support operations; and anticipating short-term and long-term strategic financial needs for significant capital and program development. The Finance Director reports to the Chief Administrative Officer and direct reports include a Senior Accountant, Associate Accountant and Revenue Cycle Manager.


Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain a deep understanding of the agency’s mission and vision to develop the financial services vision, strategic plans, goals and metrics in support of Washburn Center for Children's strategic plan and individual program and departmental initiatives. This includes formation of key performance indicators and the development of a culture of accountability.
  • Ensure that appropriate internal controls are in place and implement and ensure compliance with GAAP.Additionally, use the most appropriate information systems available to ensure disciplined control systems and accuracy in reporting and analysis.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the accounting and revenue cycle management teams.
  • Coordinate and direct the preparation of the annual capital and operational budgets, periodic financial forecasts, and other planning and control procedures as needed.
  • Prepare, analyze and present monthly financial reports for the organization, its programs and activities. Anticipate, create, and produce management reporting tools for decision makers and stakeholders to aide in the understanding of financial results in order to make informed decisions.
  • Develop financial forecasting and cash flow models, reports, and tools to support sound analysis and decision making.
  • Support a strong treasury, investment portfolio and debt structure function. Manage all external banking and vendor relationships connected with these services and lead adherence to the Board approved Investment Policy Statement in the management of Endowment funds.
  • Coordinate 3rd-party payer negotiations for managed care contracts with CEO, CAO, and COO.Oversee management of existing contracts to include implementation, tracking and all reporting requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory obligations while maintaining a system of internal controls.
  • Coordinate and lead the annual audit, 990, and tax filings and serve as primary liaison with the auditors.
  • Partner with HR in processing payroll and administering retirement and health and wellness benefits plans.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all financial matters as well as for the annual audits, brokers, investment managers, financial institutions, donors, government entities, and donors.
  • Develop and direct the application of financial, accounting and client policies, promoting an organizational climate of stewardship and fair allocation of resources while empowering managers and employees to an appropriate level of personal decision making and accountability.
  • Oversee Risk Management to ensure Agency has appropriate professional, property and general liability coverage.
  • Support the Chief Administrative Officer in providing staff support to the Finance Committee and in making presentations to the Board of Trustees.

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Experience

  • Minimum 8 years of progressively responsible experience in the management of financial operations preferably in a nonprofit or with at least 3 years in a financial leadership role
  • Minimum 3 years of people leadership experience
  • Nonprofit board experience as a volunteer or staff preferred
  • Experience in a clinical healthcare environment preferred
  • Experience with financial management, reporting, and billing of government grants and contracts (Federal, State, County) preferred
  • Experience with and commitment to equity and inclusion required
