Position Overview

Arnold Ventures’ Health Care portfolio makes health care affordable and accessible for patients, employers, and taxpayers. We fund work across several broad issue areas: Provider Payment Incentives and Medicare Sustainability, Commercial Sector Prices, Drug Prices, Clinical Trials, and Complex Care. The team works with experts from inside and outside government – including industry and academia – to reform the health care system through evidence generation, policy development, communications, technical assistance, and advocacy to support systemic change, including through policy change.

Our Provider Payment Incentives and Medicare Sustainability portfolios address a range of issues related to health care spending. Our Provider Payment Incentives portfolio aims to reduce wasteful spending and increase efficiency in the health care system by shifting to population-based payment models that reward providers for delivering high-quality, patient-centered care at lower costs. Our Medicare Sustainability portfolio aims to address Medicare’s fiscal challenges by reducing overpayments and improving accountability in Medicare Advantage, reducing excessive spending in traditional Medicare, and strengthening Medicare’s long-term financing. Our work focuses on supporting policy change to achieve these objectives.

We are seeking an Analyst to help provide research, analytical, and operational support to the Provider Payment Incentives and Medicare Sustainability portfolios. This individual will work closely with team members on substantive, policy-oriented projects and gain experience in supporting the development and management of high-impact philanthropic projects on relevant health care issues. This position will be located in our Washington, DC office and will report to the Health Care Director, Provider Payment Incentive and Medicare Sustainability.

Core Responsibilities

  • Provide analytical and operational support for the Health Care team’s funding initiatives, including active collaboration with team members on grants management and team process management
  • Conduct research/analysis of health care programs and policies, and help develop projects and policy recommendations based on such analysis
  • Track, analyze, and synthesize relevant policy developments, external events, and research in the field
  • Develop written materials and presentation slides for Arnold Ventures’ Board, Executive Vice President and Vice President of Health Care, and other individuals in collaboration with team members
  • Actively contribute to team meetings regarding projects, identifying new areas of opportunity and brainstorming areas for improvement
  • Coordinate and actively contribute to meetings with grantees, experts, and other stakeholders

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 1-2 years of experience in a related field is preferred, including part-time work or internships; preference for experience in positions involving policy reform, research, and/or project management
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to summarize and communicate key takeaways to diverse, nontechnical audiences
  • Exceptional project management and organizational skills
  • Ability to analyze policy problems, assess potential solutions, and articulate tradeoffs

The salary range for this position will be $75,000-$90,000.
