Job Summary

The Principal will provide transformational leadership to planning, launching, and managing Parcells Middle School. This unique leader must have a demonstrated experience of influencing and motivating others to reach their full potential. The Parcells Principal will implement a model which focuses on high student achievement; building a positive school climate that supports the whole student; leveraging research and data to drive initiatives and instruction; and building a high-performing staff and leadership team to achieve the district’s vision and goals. The Parcells Principal will also collaborate with parents, community members, and other internal/external resources to accelerate student achievement.

Major Duties And Responsibilities

  • Promote a widely shared instructional belief that every child deserves and can have expert instruction and that all team members must be advocates for students.
  • Establish a culture of learning and achievement; acts consistently to influence others to achieve results.
  • Participate and lead various processes to meet the needs of individual learners such as 504 meetings, IEP meetings, MTSS meetings, and child study meetings.
  • Create a sense of urgency and take immediate action to ensure early success.
  • Relentlessly focus school activities on student achievement; effectively plans and takes action to achieve goals and objectives that empower all students, staff, and parents.
  • Embrace diversity and understand how to engage all stakeholders in the school community.
  • Understand how to engage all stakeholders in the school community through actionable Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion practices.
  • Demonstrate the ability to lead and foster a learning environment where social-emotional learning and restorative practices are the foundation for how students are supported.
  • The ability to closely monitor teaching practices and ensure both rigor and best practice are occurring in all classrooms.
  • Design opportunities to empower students, staff, and parents to be integrally involved in all aspects of the school's culture and climate.
  • Commit to high visibility and daily communication with all stakeholders using multiple forms of communication.
  • Understand the complexities and nuances of hiring, evaluating, inspiring, and mentoring all staff members to exceed expectations.
  • Quickly recognize patterns and trends related to school performance; analyze complex information to formulate and articulate a strategic vision and develop action plans.
  • Identify appropriate metrics and use qualitative and quantitative data to assess performance and drive goals and decision-making.
  • Network with county, state, national, and international organizations to assure updated knowledge of best practices and teaching and learning in the 21st Century.
  • Meet regularly with parents, students, and staff to assist in meeting the needs of the diverse group of learners at Parcells Middle School.
  • Understand the school's responsibility to prepare students for their futures in this rapidly changing global society.
  • Consistently takes on challenging situations and believes in the ability to effect change; takes risks to achieve vision and goals, even if they deviate from the norm.
  • Set high-performance goals for themselves and others despite instability and obstacles to success.

Qualifications

The individual selected for this position will be the one who offers the best combination of qualities in accordance with the following standards and requirements:

  • Master's degree, or greater, with training in school administration
  • Valid School Administrator Certificate or be eligible to obtain
  • Minimum three years of proven success in increasing student achievement at the middle school level in a variety of leadership roles is preferred
  • Proven ability to adapt to the complexities of leading at-risk populations
  • Proven success leading at-risk populations
  • Proven experience in conducting rigorous evaluations of educator and school staff performance
  • Success with professional development design and delivery
  • Understands the unique nature and importance of middle-level education.
  • Proven ability to build capacity in others
  • A strong belief that all students can learn to high levels and thrive when given the chance
  • A commitment to community education concepts

What We Offer

The position is assigned to work 11 months, 240 days per year.

Starting salary is in accordance with the negotiated agreement, and increases with experience and education.

Please Note

The collective bargaining agreement between the district and the Grosse Pointe Administrator Association is currently being bargained for next year. While that is in negotiations, please refer to the current agreement as to pay and benefits that are in place for the 2023-24 school year.
