Reading is Fundamental of Northern Virginia (RIF of NOVA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting literacy and providing books to children in need. Our mission is to address the educational challenges faced by children in households where access to books is limited. RIF of NOVA raises funds to provide books for almost 21,000 children in the Northern Virginia area. By putting books into the hands of children who need them the most, we aim to raise a generation of readers and help them overcome the academic obstacles they face.
Role Description
This is a volunteer role for a Board Member at RIF of NOVA. As a Board Member, you will be responsible for providing strategic guidance and oversight to support our mission. This includes participating in board meetings, making informed decisions, and contributing to the organization's success. This is a hybrid role, with some work expected to be done at our location in Northern Virginia, but remote work is also allowed for flexibility.
Qualifications
Experience in nonprofit organizations or community service
Strong leadership and decision-making skills
Ability to collaborate and work effectively as part of a team
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Passion for promoting literacy and improving educational opportunities for children
Knowledge of fundraising and donor cultivation strategies
Experience in strategic planning and organizational development
Ability to dedicate time and effort to board functions and responsibilities
