Description

NAMRU-SA is located on the San Antonio Military Medical Center campus, Joint Base Fort Sam Houston, Texas. NAMRU-SA serves as one of the leading research and development laboratories of the U.S. Navy. The Command's Mission is to conduct gap driven combat casualty care, craniofacial, and directed energy research to improve survival, operational readiness, and safety of Department of Defense personnel engaged in routine and expeditionary operations. NAMRU-SA scientists conduct basic, applied, and advanced technology research and development, including prototype demonstration in operational environments.

What will I be doing?

Under the guidance of a mentor, you will have the opportunity to apply cell and molecular biology techniques toward understanding how different types of directed energy cause changes to cells in the skin. The long-term goal of this research is to better understand how directed energy can change the molecular and genetic features of cells and apply this information to protect warfighters.

Why should I apply?

In this project, you will have the opportunity to learn how to: (1) develop and assess 3D models of tissue culture (2) apply and evaluate directed energy effects in vitro and in vivo (3) perform molecular and single cell analyses to better understand these changes. You will collaborate with researchers from all scientific directorates at NAMRU-SA and have an opportunity to present this research at future meetings.

Where will I be located?

San Antonio, Texas

What is the anticipated start date? 7/1/2024

NAMRU-SA is ready to make appointments immediately. Exact start dates will be determined at the time of selection and in coordination with the selected candidate. Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis and fellowships will be filled as qualified candidates are identified.
