New Dog

The crocheted lady is time consuming, and the changes are becoming noticeable very slowly. At the same time, many dolls in beginning stages are waiting on the shelves, so I took a break in order to finish this dog during the last few days.
It is ready just in time before my Sock Pet and Creature Workshop tomorrow. The workshop is almost full, but there is one last place available, if someone out there would like to change their mind at the last minute. :-)

The new dog is now listed on my Etsy doll store.

Drora

One of the sock dolls I told you about last week is finally done. Creating these sock dolls always takes longer than I expected. It is such a complicated process, which includes hours of stitching and unpicking and stitching again.
It is a great relief to see it done.

Now let me introduce you to Drora.
Drora in Hebrew means the female sparrow, and is also an old-fashioned name for girls.
There are some birds on her legs.

Her bag is still empty, but together we are preparing some surprises to put inside... I forgot to mention that for a living, Drora works as a freelance toy designer.
You can also see her on my Etsy doll store .

Coasters

It was long time since I wrote about my cloth cups and my Lets cloth it project. As a result of doing few different things in the same time some of my ideas and projects are on hold for a while, long while.
This week I finally got some time to design the second item in this project:
My cloth coasters.
As the cloth cups, the coasters are replicas of the saucers from my grandmother's porcelain set.
It was a long process of designing much more than I estimated. I sew more the 15 different pieces changing some details in the sewing techniques or in the pattern till I got the design I liked and satisfied by.
I spent much more time than I spent on the designing of the cups.
Well I should have known it already that the things that seem to be simple to make always becoming the most complicated.
Any way here they are, also available at my etsy store.

Me and the birds

This week I made some new birds brooches. It is a great fun to create these tiny stuff, they turn out so tiny and cute. But when I am doing them for long hours, and making them does require long hours, I feel that my eyes bit hurt after concentrating so long on such tiny details.
Taking their photos is not ease too, sometimes it takes more then one hour till I get photos good enough for the etsy store, flickr and this blog.
I think that I need some break now, I am going to start some new project this week.
The birds are going to have some time off too.

They already like it, earlier today they spent such a nice and sunny afternoon on our balcony.

Now you can see me, this photo by my dearest friend Adi Yochalis featured at the Etsy storque article about Israeli sellers, you can check it out here.

Nest brooch

Two birds are sitting in their cozy nest. They like it, staying in together.

They can sit back to back, side to side, side to back and so on...

There are crochet threads attaching the birds to the nest and keeping them inside but allow some freedom of movement too.

They wouldn't fly far away anyway, they like it so much inside.
You can check out this nest brooch at my etsy store.

Arctic Birds

Yesterday these two arctic birds just knocked on my door and asked to join my birds flock.
I guess that there where some whisper, spread out among the arctic birds about the sunny winter we got here this year. I guess they was told that they would never feel cold at my place, even though it is not real winter yet, the heater is always on over here, I am always cold, as I already told you.

I assume they will have to take off their scarfs and hoods soon, but meanwhile they are yet getting used to middle east winter.
They are both listed at my etsy store so you can check them out here or here.

Birds jewelry

Inspired by the birds I was creating lately, I made these two new brooches.
The Handkerchief Brooch and the bird in the bag Brooch.
They are both made by the same techniques I used for the birds dolls - a piece of old socks added with embroidery and crochet details.
I got the idea for this one when I was creating the winter bird.
I found out that the handkerchief in bird's pocket looks so stylish and thought why shouldn't human get this piece of birds style.
Besides that this kind of embroidery handkerchiefs remind me my grandmother who liked this kind of stuff so much.

The idea for this little bird came after the mother bird and her little nestling whom she carries in her bag.

I thought that the little nestling may be lost if it wouldn't be attached to the bag but I also liked the idea of playful jewelry, which one can change its look and make the decision every day how to place the bird in the bag.
The solution as you can see was attaching it with a crochet thread so now it wouldn't get lost but and remain playful.

For each brooch I sew a cloth envelope to protect them, they are so tiny.
I haven't made any piece of jewelry for long time and I really enjoyed it. So I'm off to make some more!
Meanwhile, you can check these two out at my etsy store .

Bookish Bird

The Bookish bird is now reading all the books I didn't get to read lately when all of my attention was in creating the birds and wasting my time in thousand of other stupid things too (like reading all Etsy forums).

As you can see he likes both human and birds books, and he always carries one of them inside its bag.

Check it out at my Etsy store.

The Winter Bird

It's not cold here in TelAviv yet, even though it is almost the end of November. People are yet hanging around in their summer clothes, but not the Winter Bird.
For this bird it is already too cold since the end of August. It put on its wool coat, scarf, pullover

and carry her handkerchief in its pocket, it suffers from runny nose all the time.

Just like I do.

Sometimes it is really getting too hot even for us (the winter bird and me).
