Commons:

- Question Does anyone know what kind of film this is? It looks like medium format because of the massive resolution. --Wilfredor (talk) 20:16, 19 August 2024 (UTC)
- Comment Good question. The description mentions “35mm (slide format)”, so it’s just full frame. It must be a slide/colour reversal film with low grain and high resolution, therefore a low ISO speed rating, probably 64; and it seems likely that Gotfryd used a Kodak film. Indeed both resolution and colours remind me much of Ektachrome 64 T, the tungsten film variant of the Kodak Ektachrome 64 film. Ektachrome 64/64 T was a very reliable film which survived the heat of an Egyptian summer as well as getting drowned in German rain showers without any colour shift. – 10:06, 20 August 2024 (UTC)

- Support Fantastic capture! Very nice meeting place :-) DoF is a bit shallow (F/6.3) for this long focal length, as a result the head is slightly out of focus, unfortunately. However the birds are all very good with a satisfying level of sharpness. It seems that you gave the priority to action with high speed setting (1/2000 sec), that is totally understandable in this complex situation. Additionally, you didn't specify why you think the image has poor quality. The nomination is currently passing in QIC, so I'm confused about why you believe this image has terrible quality. Also, i hope you wont use 100+ MB for each photo, its around 24 MPx, do we loose so much on jpeg !? --Mile (talk) 08:20, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
- I see what you are saying. I did shoot at f/4 (Prime lens at 500mm without TC) to focus on the eyes and face of the adult ibis and the exchange of food. As for the PNG, I did a quick check and it seems like I'm the only dork using it. I use PNG for lossless compression, preservation of image quality and colors. Wikipedia's suggestion is JPG, so moving forward I will post JPGs. But my previously uploaded images, already uploaded, may appear on FPC as .PNG.

Vote as you see fit; I shan't take offense, but I would appreciate explanations, because, y'know, there's other images to consider, and having a good idea on how Commons stands helps with pre-filtering them. - Support as creator & nominator. There is a lot of detail in this image, but when viewed at 100% zoom, the sharpness should be OK. In my browser, the "original image" link on its page defaults to a much higher zoom (200%???) in which the sharpness of the trees is not the greatest. The rock face on the left foreground is naturally wet year-round and had a trickle of running water behind a layer of ice, which is why some of the ice against the rock face is dark while icicles hanging close to the rock face are bright from the sunlight shining through them. Image was taken in Nikon RAW format and only editing adjustments were to increase both highlight and shadow protection, increase overall brightness just a little, increase saturation just a little, and change white balance from "auto" to "natural light auto". -- AHeneen (talk) 06:04, 17 August 2024 (UTC)

- No. I'm not quite sure what you mean by over-sharpened. Isn't sharpness fixed when shooting? I disclosed the edits made to the image and the highlight/shadow protection was adjusted so there's more detail in hightlights (especially all the white snow in bright sunlight) and lowlights. AHeneen (talk) 21:48, 20 August 2024 (UTC)

- Support Excellent overview of the situation both of the ancient and of the modern village. The photo makes evident why the ancient settlers of Azoria selected that place: it’s easy to defend, still flat enough for safe building, not far away from (rather) fertile ground, and one can spot the approach of enemies very early. – Aristeas (talk) 10:07, 19 August 2024 (UTC)
- Support Drones present an interesting trade-off. You have an opportunity to create an image that tells a story in a way that cannot be done while standing on the ground. This image succeeds in showing the terrain features, the two settlements and the bay. Unfortunately, most drones are like cellphones with wings. But the value of this image I think exceeds the shortcomings of the image sensor. --Needsmoreritalin (talk) 16:14, 19 August 2024 (UTC)

- Well, the original was way worse. Unfortunately some little part are missing already from the original, because at the time the daguerrotype produced some black areas around the images. - Thanks for your comment. @Urban Versis 32: I'm happy to propose the alternative below if preferred. But it's a useful scale, in my opinion (like here or here), otherwise you wonder what's special in this painting. It's difficult to figure out the proportions without any clue, as it could be a standard 20 by 30 cm, or larger. The scale is discreet in the background -- Basile Morin (talk) 04:01, 15 August 2024 (UTC)
- That is true. It seems like most prefer the scale, however I will remain neutral on this one and support the alt. Urban Versis 32KB ⚡ (talk | contribs) 23:50, 15 August 2024 (UTC)

- Support Very impressive and atmospheric mountain scene. However I agree that there seems to be some oversharpening of noise; it would be nice to mitigate this. Could it be related to tonemapping? Or to problems of the raw image processor with raw images from the Fujifilm X-Trans sensor – I remember having read about that in the past. @Julesvernex2: Can you say if the special ‘worm-like’ structures in the noise are related to problems with processing the raw image files from the X-Trans sensor? – Aristeas (talk) 18:20, 15 August 2024 (UTC)
- Yup, those indeed look like Fuji's notorious worms! Adobe's default raw engine does a terrible job with X-Trans files, but there's two ways to get around it: i) Use Adobe's Enhance feature (I see this image was edited in Lightroom's mobile version, not sure if it's already available there); or ii) use another raw processor (e.g., DXO or Capture One). Dktue, if you don't have access to Enhance/DXO/Capture One, I can demosaic the raw file for you and send you a linear DNG file for editing. Julesvernex2 (talk) 19:44, 15 August 2024 (UTC)
- Comment Dear users @Dktue, Urban Versis 32, Aristeas, Yann, and Julesvernex2: If no raw file can be provided, please feel free to use the edited file available at the SwissTransfer link for an update or a derivative. I have done an appropriate, lossless denoising. It would be a pity if this nomination would be burned due to technical problems. Note as per Yann: The categories should be improved. - @Julesvernex2: Thank you very much for the explanation and the hints how to handle this problem! @Radomianin: Thank you very much for your improved version – it looks indeed much better. @Dktue: I would suggest just to upload the improved version by Radomianin – this could also help to convince more voters of the photo – and to try Julesvernex2’s hints when this problem returns with further photos. – Aristeas (talk) 10:25, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for editing! The enhance-details that ususally fixes the Fuji-X-trans-worms is not available on the iPad version of Lightroom. I uploaded the new version of Radomianin, thanks! --Dktue (talk) 12:57, 16 August 2024 (UTC)

- Question Is the real Colosseo tilted like the tower in Pisa? --August (talk) 20:20, 14 August 2024 (UTC)
- I used several verticals as a reference point (modern verticals) and the coliseum seems to be slightly tilted but not as much as the pisa tower. The Colosseum is about 40 cm (16 inches) lower on the south side than on the north.[1] Wilfredor (talk) 21:50, 14 August 2024 (UTC)

Alt version
[edit]- Info Thanks to Mile comment, I'm adding this alt version cuting the building and the cart, IMHO look more clean centering the Colosseo importance --Wilfredor (talk) 03:37, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
- Comment I think its beter than above, but will stay Neutral. Still see roof and light choped. Cloning probably would help. --Mile (talk) 10:06, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for your comment dear Mile, however, IMHO I think there is no way to take a street photo without cutting off a building or a car at some point. Wilfredor (talk) 12:53, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
- Comment Wilfredor I tried, and something like this , Coloseum must be more in sight, so more light and roand bellow less light, also removed roof, luster of left. You have space to sharpen it, so i did some. This was quick mode. I would enlight Coloseum even more. --Mile (talk) 15:10, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
