Summary
[edit]DescriptionBanderaLares2.jpg |
English: Original 19th century Lares flag; collection of Museum of the Army in Toledo, Spain. This original Grito de Lares flag was adopted by the Revolutionary Committee of Puerto Rico for the Grito de Lares (Cry of Lares) revolt of 1868 against Spanish authority in Puerto Rico. It is mentioned in 1872 in the chronicle Historia de la insurrección de Lares (History of the insurrection of Lares) by José Pérez Moris, thus its originality is authenticated by a written primary source.[1][2][3][4] An exact illustration of the flag is featured here and an illustration of the flag with its most commonly used and widely accepted dimensions today is featured here. This illustration features a dark blue (hex color code #0038a7) and a deep red (hex color code #ce1127). The most common and widely accepted dimensions of the flag today can be found here. These are visually recognized by the government of Puerto Rico.[5] Several flags were made for the revolt in 1868, but only two have survived to this day. The other Grito de Lares (Cry of Lares) flag has been exhibited at Museum of History, Anthropology and Art, University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedra Campus since 1954. |
