Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 13:04, 14 September 2011 (UTC)

Western Desert question
[edit]I notice that there's a short railway outside Benghazi that seems to end in the middle of nowhere. Do you know why this is? Also, does the coast road really not pass through Ajedabia? Maury Markowitz (talk) 12:00, 29 October 2013 (UTC)
- It's so long since I did this work I can't remember my sources. All I can say is that I am sure that what I made was accurate to the sources. It's possible the railway was to do with mining so went to "the middle of nowhere". As for the the Ajedabia road I can't swear to it but the main road doesn't go through Tobruk on the map either and I know that's correct. Quite often when the town is old and made up of narrow streets and alleys, the main road has to bypass. Stephen Kirrage talk - contribs 15:09, 29 October 2013 (UTC)
- After posting I found a statement on the railway. That's "floating end" is a small town, but it used to be a prison camp! Maury Markowitz (talk) 19:09, 29 October 2013 (UTC)
