History
editThe beginnings of Frima Studio: 2003 to 2007
editFrima Studio was founded by Christian Daigle, Philippe Bégin, and Steve Couture. The name “Frima” was inspired by the frost that formed during winter on the windows of the old apartment of one of the founder, which also served as their first production office.
The studio’s initial focus was on casual, online and multiplayer games. This will remain the studio’s focus for a long time to come.
Moving to mobile games and shift to multi-platform: 2008-2013
editThe studio expanded in 2008 with the acquisition of Humagade Studio, a studio specializing in mobile games. Following this acquisition, Frima Studio extended its reach beyond PC and online games, launching several titles on platforms like PSP, PS Vita, and Nintendo Wii. This move accelerated the studio's expertise in multi-platform game development.
In 2011, in an effort to diversify its offering, Frima acquired Volta Studio and Virtuel Concept Studio, which specialized in high-level concept art and visual effects for cinema, but quickly went back to focusing fully on video game development.
Expansion into full-development: 2014-2017
editThis social gaming boom introduced social gaming to the world and saw the growth of social media in general. Frima took advantage of this opportunity by partnering on various Facebook games and incorporating new development elements, including monetization features.
Frima Studio continues to evolve and forays into full-development projects, acquiring a strong expertise in all stages of the game development process.
Major partnerships: 2016-2018
editThe studio successfully established partnerships with major IP holders and industry leaders around the world, including the beginning of a long-term collaboration with Epic Games on its massively popular game: Fortnite.
Business intelligence: 2018 and beyond
editFrima built an internal expertise in data analytics and business intelligence with the goal of enhancing their understanding of players and gaming audiences across various platforms. This enabled them to adapt games for new audiences through cross-platform development.
In its commitment to excellence, the studio realigned its teams and efforts toward developing data-driven games for console, PC, and mobile platforms, collaborating with high-profile IPs and studios around the world.
