Employment Opportunities

The General Assembly convenes each year in January.  The Colorado state constitution states that the regular sessions of the general assembly shall not exceed one hundred twenty calendar days.  

The Colorado Senate has ongoing employment opportunities available for the legislative sessions.   This seasonal employment is full time for the stated four-month period only.

SENATE REPUBLICANS - FULL-TIME POLICY ANALYST

Overview

The full-time policy analyst will provide detailed research and analysis of legislation for the Senate Minority caucus and staff. We are seeking a policy-oriented individual who works well under pressure and changing circumstances.

Responsibilities

  • Read all legislation that is introduced
  • Work collaboratively with the Senate Minority policy staff to conduct research and strategic analysis
  • Assist the policy staff in preparing memos and reports as needed
  • Preparation of legislative research for Senators during committee meetings
  • Meet with Senators regularly to discuss committee schedule
  • Prepare policy memos for all legislation introduced during the interim

Qualifications

  • Familiarity with the Colorado legislative process and recent legislation
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite
  • Strong reading comprehension and writing skills
  • Must be adaptable in a constantly changing environment and willing to work long hours
  • Must be able to work in an organized manner, with the ability to collaborate, problem solve, and work on a team while also taking individual responsibility to complete assignments
  • The individual in this position will maintain professionalism with every person they work with, including non-partisan staff, legislators and staff of the House and Senate Majority offices, constituents, and lobbyists

Compensation

  • $50K-$60K/year commensurate with experience, with enrollment in PERA, the state’s pension program, and insurance benefits.

SENATE REPUBLICANS - SESSION-ONLY POLICY ANALYST

SENATE REPUBLICANS - SESSION-ONLY LEGISLATIVE ANALYST (DATA ANALYST)

Overview

The session-only (Jan-May) legislative analyst will track and summarize every bill introduced and maintain an internal database showing its status. We are seeking an individual with strong attention to detail and demonstrated priority and time management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Read and summarize all legislation that is introduced
  • Maintain an internal database tracking the status of each bill that is introduced
  • Create visual representations of data findings through charts, graphs, and dashboards to make the data understandable
  • Listen to committee and floor proceedings to keep track of votes
  • Assist the policy staff in preparing memos and reports as needed
  • Research Governor appointments as needed

Qualifications

  • Familiarity with the Colorado legislative process and recent legislation
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite
  • Must be adaptable in a constantly changing environment and willing to work long hours
  • Must be able to work in an organized manner, with the ability to collaborate, problem solve, and work on a team while also taking individual responsibility to complete assignments
  • The individual in this position will maintain professionalism with every person they work with, including non-partisan staff, legislators and staff of the House and Senate Majority offices, constituents, and lobbyists

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated data management and visualization skills
