EPP Poem and update from Adventurous Quilter

As I stitched away on my tiny tumblers project last night I began to hear a poem in my mind:

17 stitches all in a very neat row,
Hand stitched together ever so slow,
Quilters we rejoice at this sight,
Only we know it's a true delight!
Scraps loving and carefully sewn,
Until a full quilt will be finally known.
17 stitches across the seam at the bottom of a tumbler
I finished block 9 of 25 earlier this week:
So that pile of quilt blocks is starting to look quite impressive with over 1200 tiny tumblers stitched so ...

July 350 Blocks Report from Prairie Moon Quilts

I keep saying that I’m gonna get back to my normal schedule soon, but it doesn’t appear to be happening as fast as I’d like. I did get my new studio set up enough to sew, and I’ve been working to get back on track with all the customer quilts I have piled up here!

I ended up with a total of 36 blocks for July, which was just over the goal, so I’m happy with that.

Two of the blocks were for my Made & Found quilt, a Facebook quilt-along that began a while back ...

Honeymoon at the beach from Chocolate Cake Quilt Designs

The clearing out of our stuff continues, with this project infusing some much-welcomed fun and creativity into an otherwise tedious activity.

This is the culmination of a year of effort and collaboration with my local framer to showcase the seashells and sand dollars we collected on our honeymoon in 1982. These items have safely resided in a well-packed shoebox, backed with good intentions to turn them into something. I just could never figure out what. With those intentions now glaring me in the face, it was now or never.

I started with the desire to have needlework play a part ...

Anna Karena 33, 34 from Virtual Quilter

Blue is not my favourite colour, but it looks OK with some pink and purple in this project file.

I do love having empty spaces to show off some quilting, and I prefer to not use feathers. I like feathers, but prefer to see formal designs with either bubbles, squiggles, straight lines or cross hatch filling in the background around both the formal quilting designs and the applique.

One thing I do not like is to see all over quilting which has no real relationship to the pieced or applique on the quilt top.

August Chookshed Challenge Number from Dreamworthy Quilts

August Chookshed Challenge Number  is 3.

Number  three was chosen by Google random number generator for August.  We got this.  Remember,  we only go through October. There are only two numbers left.

My number three is my Disney Princess blocks that I started in December of 2018.  My goal is to "make progress".  Making progress is always a safe goal.  I am nearly done with Elsa and you can see below the ones that are finished.  Ariel is the only one I have completed the embroidery work on, so there is that to do as well.
I still intend to ...

An Earthy Quilt and NTT from My Quilt Infatuation

Welcome to Needle and Thread Thursday, my friends!  My beloved Regina BERNINA is back home where she belongs, and has helped me crank out a brand new quilt top with an unusual color palette (for me).  I decided to use my Tinkering pattern, which is one of my favorites.  I love that the blocks go together so quickly, and since I'm trying to use stash, I wanted a pattern that does not use a solid background (since I don't think I have enough of a single fabric to use).

Quilting entirely from stash has forced me to really ...

Canning & Pricing Beans from Patchwork Times by Judy Laquidara

I don’t pay a lot of attention to prices – probably more than some but less than Vince would like. We eat a lot of beans because we like them, they have a lot of fiber and with pressure cookers, they’re fairly easy and quick to cook. I will almost always cook more than we...

Travel Day from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Instead of getting stuff ready for tomorrow or getting some sleep, I'm instead sitting at my "computer" and blogging. Don't worry - it's as much for me as it is for you!

I had an over night flight from Toronto to Madrid. I was extremely fortuate that my ticket was upgraded to Business Class, so I got the use of the lounge before I left and the flatbed for the flight.

Theh flight was 10:55 PM and we pushed away froom the gate at 10:55 PM. Last year, my flight to Paris was delayed and was ...

Fresh Start from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's good to have the quilt sandwiches done so that I can get back to my regular routine. Of course, some things never change. Unless something pressing happens, the day must start with some slow-stitching. Yesterday, I took the first stitches on the 11th block for the "Kittens" quilt.

From there, I took a walk on the treadmill, and then I took a walk around outside. The kitties are allowed out in the morning, and we keep pretty close tabs on them. In my walk-around, I noticed buds on at least three of the four ...

July Stash Report and Goals Update from The Colorful Fabricholic

A lot happened this month, but not a lot of blogging. Pardon the indoor photos in this post - it's just too blasted hot (107 degrees) and sunny to take photos outside here now.

Retreat was a lot of fun, and I got one top completely pieced, started blocks for another, and sewed squares together for a third. The finished top was inspired by something I saw on Pinterest, attributed only to "Kathy," which showed an interesting way to use stripes. I used a bold black and white referee stripe with bright colors for my version:

This was so much ...

Midweek: OMG success, under the needle, and flinging from With Strings Attached

Surely I am not the only person wondering where July has gone!

My OMG was to make the quilt for the AAUW holiday raffle.  I finished it mid-month.  ("Don't 'peak' until Christmas"?)

Here is the July OMG link up.

SIS-boom-dot is under the needle, though here it's shown rolled up for the last rows.  (SIS=square-in-square / boom = the brights / dot = the black pin dot.)

These boxes are empty!  They held various household items left over from my last garage sale (2019 according to the newspapers wrapped around glassware), a miscellany of tins, and more.   The contents are in ...

To Do List for July 2024 from Mel's quilting blog

    My to-do-list for 2024

It's been a slow month for completions.

The NBAQG QuiltFest took up most of my time.

1. Donna's memory quilt or two, depending on how it goes together.

I have the second box and have started deconstructing it.
I think I have decided on at least one of the patterns.

3. I'd like to make some memory teddy bears from Rob, Lillian, and Donna's leftovers.

Lillian's bears are cut.
I need to mix the two fabrics to mix and match the bears.
They will give me one more shirt next month ...

Washboard Road from Night Owl Quilting

Eileen made this bright and cheerful quilt for a special nephew.  The pattern is called Washboard Road by Highway 10 Designs and is available in both a PDF instant download or paper version from www.highway10designs.com

We used the Soho pantograph that compliments the texture in the Twist by Dashwood Studio fabric collection.

July is nearly done from My Sewing Room

How did I do on my goals for the month of July? I did much better at my quilting goals than my personal goals.  Guess I need to work harder on exercise and decluttering.

One finish that was not on the goal list for July - the strawberry bed runner.  I love the quilting that Carol did on this for me.  It's the same design as we used on a table topper recently.

The bed runner is 18" x 72", and looks great on the bed.  One strawberry on each end hangs down the sides of the bed.  And the ...

Uganda! from Humble Quilts

Thank you all for your sweet wishes and prayers for our family. We appreciate it SO much!

On a much sweeter theme, here are a few faves of my mission trip to Uganda. I made a video but Youtube isn't playing well with it at this point.

So you get photos today.

In no particular order.

We were there for the women, but women have children!  They were really precious.

In the back of the church they had mats to lay the babies.

I had at least 20 of these selfies on my phone!

Christy and I were both ...
