So I changed the color of my blog to BLUE.
Perhaps I too have my blue days, but not in a sad way-just colorful. Have a bluetiful day.

Gelli Plates

GELLI PLATES

I've been reading about these Gelli Plates and it really sounds like a lot of fun. After checking into them, I seen they were costly. Did a little research and found that you can make your own gelli plates. Before I go out to buy a gelli plate, I am going to try this method of making my own, provided by EHOW.   Here is the makers blog if you want to stop by there. LINDA

You can click on the links if you are interested. I'll be  watching the video again, taking my notes and will probably try it out soon. All that is needed is KNOX GELATIN AND WATER. Can you believe that?  Other crafty things are calling to me at present. Have a great weekend. Thanks for stopping by my PPF. Appreciate it. Time now to plan our weekend.

PAINT PARTY FRIDAY-BOX SHRINE AGAIN AND OTHER.

Again THE BOX. This black box is turning into a little shrine. More to be added and more to be painted. Happy Paint Friday to all and thank you Eva and Kristin for hosting.

This is the little shrine box. Didn't want to add any more embellishments. I like it like this.

Then my most fun things to show. I bought this statue bust of Queen Nefertiti and am so looking forward to painting it. Isn't she just beautiful. I can actually see myself making a statue like this if I had the supplies and the oven to bake it in. Excited!!

Nefertiti
from Wikpedia

Nefertiti (ca. 1370 BC – ca. 1330 BC)

Nefertiti

St. Francis of Asisi, my third statue of him. Can never have enough of his statues. He doesn't need any work, he is perfect the way he is. I may add just a little more stain.

On July 16, 1228, he was pronounced a saint by Pope Gregory IX. He is known as the patron saint of animals, the environment, and is one of the two patron saints of Italy (with Catherine of Siena). It is customary for Catholic and Anglican churches to hold ceremonies blessing animals on his feast day of October 4.[7] He is also known for his love of the Eucharist,[8] his sorrow during the Stations of the Cross, and for the creation of the Christmas creche or Nativity Scene.[9]  (Internet info from Wikpedia)

This little donkey just captured my heart and all I could think of was painting him too. He is 100 percent cement. Very heavy but lovable. My fingers are just itching to paint him.

Of course Our Lady of Guadalupe  or The Virgin Mary as she is known.

Our Lady of Guadalupe (Spanish: Nuestra SeƱora de Guadalupe), also known as the Virgin of Guadalupe (Spanish: Virgen de Guadalupe) is a celebrated Roman Catholic icon of the Virgin Mary. (Internet/Wikpedia)

She sits in my backyard now.

HAPPY PAINT PARTY FRIDAY TO ALL.

Haiku Hump Day-Spring Onions

Scallions are most commonly referred to as green onions in the United States. They are a variety of young onions with a long, thin white base that has not yet developed into a bulb and long straight green stalks that look like giant chives. Both the white base and the green stalks are commonly eaten.

Scallions have a milder flavor than mature onions, but a bit stronger than chives. The tops of these green onions may be used as a substitute for chives in many recipes.

Although scallions (green onions) may be cooked, either whole or chopped, they are perhaps most enjoyed fresh as in salads, as a crudite or as a last minute topper for sauces. They have many nutrients as well. I picked berries and scallions today. This is most enjoyable. I wash the onions,  chop them up to bite size pieces and freeze what doesn't get used.

The berries I blended with bananas, flax seed, protein, ensure powder, spirolina, 1/2 cup 2% milk and a little Dr. Atkins drink and drank the smoothie.
This is for  Helen's

Wednesday Haiku Hump Day. Haiku Hump Day.

Scallions make you cry
But they bring you such delight
All worth the effort.

Sure, bring on the tears
Remember little onion
In the end, I eat.

Last week in May-short post on open blog

May is just about over and where did it go?
I can't run and catch up with it because that was then and this is now.
There will be no complaining because all that has to be done is look outside in back and be happy for this time on earth and all that goes with it.

I'm saddened though because there are follower's who haven't accepted my invite for the closed blog. I do know though, that followers from the past, 2007 onward, have accepted and that is cool. On Friday's though, the blog will be open all day specifically for PPF! I don't want to lose my PPF follower's.  That is just too much fun for me and I so enjoy that.

Today it's about running out to pick up some dog shampoo and working on the box that I painted black although it is now different colors. It's turning out to be a little shrine.

On Saturday we went to Monte's Imports and there was a little cement donkey that needs painting and it came home with us. Also, a statue of St. Francis of Assisi that  also came home with us. I tried taking pictures but my camera just wasn't picking up. My second camera will have to be utilized.

There was also a head statue of Queen Nefertiti and it was unpainted. Looked at it and remembered I had painted her and that was that. We came home and sitting outside my mind went back to the unpainted statue. I knew I had to have it so that it can be painted! Going back today to pick it up.

I am just going on about nothing really. I'm just hoping my invites will be accepted so I am posting this on the open blog. Okay today calls me to get ready and head out the door to do the things I have to do.

Have a wonderful day and here's hoping you had a wonderful holiday weekend.

PAINT PARTY FRIDAY-WIP's

(added this note today. 5/24/13  I'm still adding names to invitations for a closed blog with invited guests. If you would like to be added to the list, please let me know. I will be closing down in the evening and only the persons that have accepted invitations will be allowed in. I'm doing this to prevent spammer's and other. If you want an invite, please let me know blogger friends and I will send you one. I'm still waiting on acceptance from about 15 or 16 peoples  14 peoples that are probably a little leery about this. I assure you, it's only for safety.) I close down my blog in the evening and those who have invites are welcome all the time.

Thank you to all who have already accepted.

HAPPY PAINT FRIDAY TO EVERYONE. Linking up to:

PAINT PARTY FRIDAY with Eva and Kristin hosting and thank you very much. So I have been busy trying to do something a little different with my blog and it's taking a while to get it done. Painting on canvas is nil right now and that's missed. The cactus garden is the "in" thing right now. Cleaning and adding a little peat moss to the pots. The cactus garden out back needs work too. This cactus area is right outside my studio.

Have to take everything off, clean off, wash down and spray with ant spray. The plants have to be cleaned out, a little soil added, watered down and placed back on the shelves that are there.

Here I've cleaned and put back these plants and am in the process of cleaning out more succulents.

This here is a box that was painted and am in the process of making a shrine out of it. Not sure yet what to add. On going piece.

This is another wooden cross in the works with buttons, hearts added. It still needs gloss spray and really there is not a theme that I can think of. A hole still needs to be drilled at the top of the cross.

My  wood hands painted and various buttons, stars, hearts and other  added. There is no theme here again. Perhaps it shows that although these hands have a lot of wear and tear in them, they can still be full of life and heart? I don't know. I'm not good at adding themes.

Have a great weekend and
HAPPY PAINT FRIDAY. I will be by all your blogs.

What a HASSLE

It is a big hassle trying to add the readers. I'm trying to change to selected readers only and to type in names in order to allow visits from the people that follow me and it's just not working. So I'm switching back to open blog until I can figure out how to select the names, add them and actually I'm mixed up trying to figure this out.!!

It's like you have to send an open invitiation to everyone. aaaargh!

Losing Followers, blocking others, and beautiful Hollyhocks

There has been a loss of followers on my blog due to my shutting down from time to time I suppose. I've had to block out about 5 people who were following me because their posts on their blogs are something I don't care to see or read. People tend to follow you and you aren't sure just what kind of blog they have until you go visit and see a display of  something you don't want to see and it isn't about art, food, gardening, everyday stuff, that's for sure. So, I'd rather block them from my blog than have them following me.

I'm thinking of doing "Only These Readers" that is listed below,  but it's a sign-in process and some people don't like signing in to one's blog. This is what it says on the settings of our blogs. I think you have to input the email address of the person and I don't have all addresses so that would pose a problem. I want to apologize to my friendly readers that when I close down my blog, it's only to try and keep out those "other" unfriendly peoples.
and not YOU. You are my artistic friends and I look forward to YOUR visits.

(settings info and what it says)
Only these readers
You can restrict your blog to only readers you choose. However, these readers will need to log in before reading your blog, adding an extra step.
We'll save your readers list for you, so you can switch back at any time.

I'm going to look into this further and if that is what I have to do, I will do.

On better things  to talk about....My Amiga Dawn from Arizona sent me some Hollyhock seeds a while back and I planted them last year and this year they have grown. If I remember correctly I think she said they were very old seeds from a church by where she lived. Thanks Dawn, very much. They are growing in our garden and I will definitely take the seeds and save them after the bloom is over. Here are a couple of the pix.

They are just beautiful.

Have a great day and week ahead.

PAINT PARTY FRIDAY-hands and woman

Linking up with Eva and Kristin over at PAINT PARTY FRIDAY. Stop by there and see what the others are sharing with us all.

Hands and woman were cut out of wood on scroll saw. Sanded, painted with acrylics and glossed. Pitt pens, glitter pens and other were used on Everyday Woman. Hands were just painted with various colors, ending with the red.

The wood was sealed with a sealer.

I named this lady EVERYDAY WOMAN, although this is not what represents an every day woman. It's my pretend of times long gone and how woman dressed in the kitchen. She holds a plate, (I tried painting a plate) and is headed to the kitchen to wash the beans and see what else is in the kitchen.

She will don a white apron once in the kitchen and instruct her "servants" on what she wants for the nights dinner. She will sit looking beautiful in her white apron, with a goblet of wine in hand while they cook what she asks.

She will take the time to nod, say yes, no, and maybe, to their questions of,
"Will this do?"

Once she has drunk her wine she will raise her hand waving them off. "Carry on" she will say gleefully as she leaves the kitchen to set the table.

Here are the hands not yet completed. Just an abundance of acrylic paint added. They ended up with this color of red.

It looks like the hands are covered with blood. I was reminded of how this world has changed and the direction that it keeps going. The sadness of all the hurt in this world and how hands play a major part in that role.

BOOKS

Someone inquired the other day to me about if I were to end this blog I would lose all my posts and pictures. This topic came up because of spamming and other nonsense that one gets tired of. I have no intentions of quitting my blog, I just won't accept anonymous comments and however else spammer's or unwanted visitors can be kept away. Of course I speak not of YOU my fellow bloggers and you know that.

In any event I did say that I wouldn't lose my posts or pictures because I've been having books printed since late 2007 of my blog and it's pictures and posts. So I have everything that has been posted in these books below. In fact June is coming up and on the 30th of that month my blog book from January 1-June 30th will be printed.

Then on December 31st, the second half of the book will be printed from July 1-December 31, 2013. So it's set and I worry not about losing my "stuff" so to speak.

Another person asked me where I printed my blogs and here is the link if you'd like.

So here are my blog books

So this is Monday's post for today. Time now to go finish cleaning the dining area and take out all the paints, canvas, and other into the studio out back. Have a wonderful day and I hope your Sunday was wonderful. OURS was terrific. Have a great week.

I will be shutting down for the weekend...but first....

If you come to my blog fellow bloggers and it says this blog is only for blog authors, that is because it's down for the weekend. It will be back on next week.

I WILL BE CLOSING SHOP AT 12:00 MIDNIGHT PST-BUT WILL BE BACK NEXT WEEK

So I treated myself for Mother's Day and sent for this exquisite piece of work by
Cheryl Dolby whose works are just awesome. You need to stop by and see her beautiful work. I couldn't resist buying it for myself and for it's use. This info below is from Cheryl's blog on the piece's info and what it's meant for. Cheryl's words the next two paragraphs.

“She is Al-Kimia from the Arabic for Alchemy, meaning the Art of Transformation... Alchemy is a word/concept that has been up for me for quite some time and fire, to me, is the ultimate alchemical transformation. Other names presented themselves, but each time I knew that she was Al-Kimia, the Alchemist.”

The story of the burning bowl:

Unity Church has a special ceremony each New Year’s Eve. A large bowl is placed at the altar and each member of the church is asked to write down problems or vices they wish to annihilate from their lives.. It could be a wish to quit smoking or drinking. It might be a desire to loose weight or to quit any of a number of addictions. Each person places their list into the bowl and at midnight, the bowl is lit. Everyone watches as the fire burns away all the troubles. I decided years ago that it would be a good idea to create personal burning bowls and they have been very popular. When you are not using her for ceremony, you can place incense or candle in the stained glass basin.

AL-Kimia

Cheryl included a wonderful scented herbal soap that she makes. Thank you Cheryl, it's lovely.

A very nice note. Thanks again Cheryl. Al-Kimia is very happy here and I can hardly wait to put her to use.

Flowers from my sweet hubby and a card from my son who we shall see tomorrow.

So now I leave you for this weekend and wish all my blog friends,  mothers or not;

A VERY HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY-YOU ROCK!!

Saturday's post on Friday afternoon: Hands, soup and more.

These are the hands I'm working on right now. My own hands. I have done my own hands and feet on canvas. You can see this post here:

For now though, I continue to try to find some creativity in these wooden hands. I will work on them till the feeling that they are completed stops by to let me know.

Step one on the left, the cutout and sanding, wood protector. Now the hands are at step two. The coating of gesso, layers of different colors of paint, and where to go from here is yet to be.

and then the soup for dinner tonight.

Picked green onions from the garden, washed cleaned and chopped off dry leaves. There are a lot of onions left in the garden and they will be frozen.I first asked ehow if they could be frozen and EHow always has great answers to my questions,  and they say the onions need to be washed, chopped in pieces and after being washed bagged in plastic bags and frozen. Once frozen they can be taken out as needed for soups, casseroles, etc.

Dry bread is always good for croutons. Chopped french bread and will saute in olive oil with a little garlic powder.

Husband will say, "SOUP AGAIN." (quiet down and eat it.) tee hee. Soup has onions, garlic, celery, carrots, barley, salt and pepper,  and I'm adding a Zuke from the garden as well.

ZUCCHINI or as I call them...ZUKES

Olive oil to sprinkle on the soup along with the croutons.

It's all about soups lately and good Quinoa
(keen-wa) with salad.

HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND.

(Sunnyvale on my Revolver ball,  hmmm.)
