DeGioia Suffers Stroke, Provost to Serve as Interim President

Georgetown University President John J. DeGioia (CAS ’79, GRD ’95) suffered a stroke the morning of June 5, according to an email sent later in the day to community members from Thomas A. Reynolds III (GSB ’74), the chair of Georgetown’s board of directors. DeGioia was in stable condition at the time of the June 5 email and has begun rehabilitation, according to an email sent to university faculty and staff June 20.

DeGioia underwent surgical intervention at MedStar Washington Hospital Center and is with his wife and son.

Provost Robert M. Groves will perform the duties of president of the university, according to an email sent June 6 from Reynolds.
