In 2023, UNCDF, UNDP, and UNCTAD funded 12 innovative digital finance and digitally-enabled climate and catastrophe risk insurance solutions across the Pacific.

This led to +1M individuals using cheaper, more inclusive digital banking services. Building on more than 15 years of UNCDF & UNDP experience, we will support +2.2 million Pacific Islanders through formal digital financial services in 2023 and work with central banks to develop national financial inclusion strategies.

The UN Capital Development Fund assists developing countries in the development of their economies by supplementing existing sources of capital assistance by means of grants, loans and guarantees, first and foremost for the least developed among the developing countries.

As a Flagship Catalytic Blended Financing platform of the UN, UNCDF utilizes its unique capability to crowd-in finance for the scaling of development impact where the needs are greatest—a capability rooted in UNCDF’s unique investment mandate—to support the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the realization of the Doha Programme of Action for the least developed countries, 2022–2031.

The UNCDF vision is that LDCs are able to access and leverage the development impact of capital to enable sustainable and inclusive economic growth and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

Five Priority Areas

Ghana's financial landscape is set for transformation with the launch of comprehensive guidelines for investment-based crowdfunding due to a collaboration between the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) of Ghana and the UN Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) with advisory support from Lelepa Fund.

Developed under the GrEEn project with funding from the European Union Emergency Trust Fund (EUTF) for Africa, these guidelines aim to empower businesses, safeguard investors, and promote innovation and economic growth. At the launch, stakeholders emphasized the importance of addressing the financing gap for MSMEs and startups. The next step is ensuring effective implementation, aligning with UNCDF's goal to "crowd-in" finance for impactful investments and sustainable development.
