Musical Fruits

SpecimensNatural History Museum of Utah - Garrett Herbarium

Fabaceae, more commonly known as the bean family, is a large and cosmopolitan group of plants that have a characteristic “banner, wings, and keel” flower and produce a legume as its fruit. They take many forms from robust and thorny acacias and locust trees down to the “sensitive plants” that recoil at the slightest touch. But they are most known for their nutritious legumes that are consumed by people worldwide. This particular collection includes our Fabaceae from outside of Utah as well as international and cultivated specimens.  We appreciate your help in transcribing the labels of this group. In doing this, you are helping to increase access for scientists and plant enthusiasts around the world.
