Music Library New Opening Hours  

To further improve library services, the opening hours of the Music Library are extended on weekdays and changed on Saturdays.

The new opening hours are as follows:

Monday - Friday 9 am - 8 pm
Saturday 12 noon - 5 pm
Sunday Closed

The new opening hours, which reflect results of a recent survey, are on trial for one year starting from 10 March 2008.

A Ceremony in Recognition of the Generous Donation from Mr To Wai Ping and the Launching of e-Learning Lab New Laptops [18 Dec 2007]  


In recognition of the generous donation from our alumus Mr To Wai Ping, a ceremony was held on 18 December 2007, together with the Launching of e- Learning Lab New Laptops.

Mr To Wai Ping (BA 1979) made a general purpose gift to the Libraries in response to our appeal to alumni library users. Part of the money has been used to upgrade the e-Learning Lab facilities. The equipments are vital to our information literacy programme which offers training and workshops for about 15,000 participants every year.

On 17 November 2007, Professor Lung Ying-tai and her son Andreas will come and talk about their book "Dear Andreas". It is a collection of emails between Professor Lung and Andreas. Medium of the talk will be Putonghua.

A Ceremony marking the Gift of Mr Chung Po Yang's artwork "Evolving into One" [14 Nov 2007]  


You are cordially invited to attend A Ceremony marking the Gift of a painting "Evolving into One" from Mr Chung Po Yang SBS OBE JP on 14 November 2007 (Wednesday).

Mr. Chung graduated in USA returned to Hong Kong, joined DHL Express, and co-founded its Asia Pacific division. Mr Chung has held top ranking position with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council; a doyen in international trade he assisted the University of Hong Kong set up a Centre for Asian Entrepreneurship & Business Values in January 2006. He is a committed community service leader, a social entrepreneur, a philanthropist, a patron of the arts and conservation, and now an accomplished painter.

Mr Chung's painting "Evolving into One" is one of the results deriving from his unique technique. It features superimposed mountain peaks in intense motion suggesting an amassing of youthful energies and embodies the spirits of our youths in adversity. The colours used – purple alluding the auspicious stream of "Purple Air coming from the East towards the West" and green captures the essence of success and vitality. This framed painting measuring 233cm wide and 97cm high now adorns a spacious wall in the Main Library of The University of Hong Kong, an institute where the East meets the West.

The HKU Libraries is honoured to have Mr Chung to officiate the Ceremony and present the painting to Dr Anthony W. Ferguson, University Librarian.

鍾普洋先生贈畫儀式
--------------------

香港大學圖書館,將於十一月十四日(星期三) 舉行一項饒有意義的贈畫儀式。屆時
鍾普洋先生將會親手將他一件畫作,贈予香港大學圖書館,由館長彭仁賢博士代表
接受。

鍾普洋先生是敦豪國際亞太區域的共同創立人。在社會服務上,他曾任香港貿易發
展局及香港旅遊發展局等組織的成員。在藝術界,他擅繪中國山水,並於皇家墨爾
本理工大學進修,獲美術碩士學位。鍾先生的作品,糅合中國山水畫獨特的神髓,
和西方的點畫法及東洋的水溶性顏料,他在畫中大膽地加入大量濃烈色彩:鮮艷的
紫色、濃黃、深紅等,色彩生動,確立鮮明個人風格。

這次送給香港大學的印象派畫作,名為「重重疊疊」。畫中連綿起伏的山峰,正好
代表年輕人活力無窮而又充滿挑戰的生命。至於畫的用色 --- 紫與綠,在我國也正
象徵鴻福與青春。這幅長233厘米濶97厘米的作品,將懸掛在香港大學圖書館內。
