Knowledge Navigation Centre (KNC)

What is KNC?

The Knowledge Navigation Centre (KNC) is the campus gateway to the global information network. It is a making in response to the emerging information technologies and the University's vision for a digital campus . It is the hub where students and faculty can integrate learning, research, printing, and digital publishing in one convenient place. Users can take advantage of the latest hardware and software to explore the world of information and create their presentations.

 

Where is KNC?

The KNC is located on the G/F of the Main Library on the HKU Main Campus. It is also available in Yu Chun Keung Medical Library or Dental Library.

 

What kinds of facilities are available?

KNC provides PCs for searching for information and the production of assignments, as well as scanning and printing facilities. Generally, KNC provides three different types of PCs:

Navigation PCs

Navigation PCs are available in the Main Library and all branch libraries. These PCs provide gateway to the library catalogues, electronic indexes and abstracts, full text databases, electronic journals and Internet resources. No reservation is required for the Navigation PCs.

Project PCs

Project PCs are installed with various software programmes, such as Microsoft Office, Photoshop, Flash, for the production of assignments and presentations. Some of the Project PCs are equipped with scanners for digitisation purposes. Check the facilities available in the Main Library, the Dental Library and the Medical Library. Reservation is required for the Project PCs in the Main Library.

Video Digitisation PCs

There are two VD PCs available in the Main Library KNC. Users can digitise their videos on either the MAC or Windows platform. Reservation is required for these PCs.

Printing

Generally, all PCs in the KNC can be connected to Octopus-operated black and white and colour all-in-one network printers. Printing charge per page is 30 cents for black and white; and $3.30 for colour. Please find out more about network printing.
