This Personal Web Site is centered on the saga of one family, the Isaac Hill Family that came across the plains in 1852 to help “Tame the West,” in particular the Rogue River Valley of Southwestern Oregon.
Genealogy: Stitgen, Steele, Doane, Newman, Rapp
The Stitgen family comprises most of the book, and starts with Theodor and Barbare (Wollgrafs) Stutgen (the family would variously spell their name as Stutgen, Stuttgen, Stuettgen, and Stitgen.) Theodore Stitgen, grandson of Theodor Stutgen would immigrate to Richfield, Wisconsin about 1850 and eventually settled in Hillsboro, Oregon.

- Thirty One Years in Baker County
  A complete history of this county from the time gold was discovered in Griffin’s Gulch in the year 1861, down to the present time, is more of a task than one would at first suppose. The public records are not a full history of the affairs of county government during the first years of its existence, some of the books having been lost. In the present work, accounts of events and dates of their occurrence have been taken from written documents whenever they could be obtained, and in other cases where no record could be consulted, conclusions had to be reached by summing up the testimony of the best witnesses to the fact.

It also includes the 1910 Hood River County, Oregon Census and part of the 1920 Hood River County, Oregon Census. There are currently 42,258 individuals in the database.
Jackson County
- Oregon School Register and Record Book, Dst. 56, County of Jackson, State of Oregon
  This volume includes attendance records for the years, 1889-1891 and 1895-1897 for Medford’s Roosevelt School (pictured in 1928 at the right). The indexes below include the pupil’s name, age in years and months, and the parent or guardian’s name. The full record includes date of entrance, the student’s daily record of attendance, absences, tardy times, subjects taken, and in some cases the grade earned.
- Evans Valley Pioneers Index
  JCGL collection includes a small book entitled, the Salt of the Earth: Pioneers of Evans Valley written by Gladys Boulter and Connie Weide. Their volunteers have recently prepared an online index to this volume.
- Eagle Point Area Pioneers
  The JCGL collection includes a book entitled, A Journey Back compiled by Barbara Hegne. It draws information from journals of 19th-century settlers in the Eagle Point area. The index to this volume is shown below. It comprises the name of the individual referenced and the page(s) on which the reference can be found. If the page is followed by “(P)”, there is a picture of the individual in the book.
- Early Pioneers in Jackson County
  volunteers at JCGL have compiled a volume of early pioneer records in Jackson County Oregon entitled, Pioneer People. These early records comprise DLC surveyer records, local censuses (1853-1859), hospital records (1855-1856), and militia muster rolls (1855-1856). The index is an alphabetized list combining the names from all four sources.
- William Hoffman Diary (1853-1865)
  William Hoffman travelled with his family from Covington, Indiana to Jacksonville, Oregon along the Oregon Trail. His 38-page diary describes their trip and his subsequent years as a resident of Jacksonville.

U.S., Bureau of Land Management Tract Books, 1820-1908
3,907 land management tract books containing official records of the land status and transactions involving surveyed public lands arranged by state and then by township and range. These books indicate who obtained the land, and include a physical description of the tract and where the land is located. The type of transaction is also recorded such as cash entry, credit entry, homesteads, patents (deeds) granted by the Federal Government, and other conveyances of title such as Indian allotments, internal improvement grants (to states), military bounty land warrants, private land claims, railroad grants, school grants, and swamp grants. Additional items of information included in the tract books are as follows: number of acres, date of sale, purchase price, land office, entry number, final Certificate of Purchase number, and notes on relinquishments and conversions.

United States National Homes for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers, 1866-1938
This listing represents all of soldiers who were admitted to the disability home who had been born in Oregon.
Civil War Records
- Civil War Pensions Index Cards
  Each card gives the soldier’s name, unit, the application number, the certificate number and the state from which the soldier served. In some cases, the soldier’s rank, terms of service, date of death and place of death are given. The index cards refer to pension applications of veterans who served in the U.S. Army between 1861 and 1917. The majority of the records pertain to Civil War veterans, but they also include veterans of the Spanish-American War, the Philippine Insurrection, Indian wars, and World War I.

- Western States Historical Marriage Records Index
  Over the past decade, the BYU-Idaho (formerly known as Ricks College) Family History Center has been extracting early marriage records from counties in the western part of the United States. Virtually all of the pre-1900 marriages are included in the index for Arizona, Idaho and Nevada. Many Idaho, Nevada and Utah counties have been extracted into the 1930’s and some, much later. A significant number of marriages from Wyoming, eastern Washington, eastern Oregon, western Colorado and selected counties in California are also included.
