HOBOKEN — Manhattan now has a 12-foot reminder that the Super Bowl is being held in New Jersey.
The Hoboken Events Committee on Friday installed its sculpture of the Super Bowl roman numerals "XLVIII," which will light up Pier A Park leading up to the Feb. 2 game. The numerals, which stand 12 feet high and 60 feet wide, are visible from both sides, so both New Jersey and New York have a view.
The sculpture is part of a weeklong event, The Hoboken Huddle, which starts Jan. 28. The event will feature outdoor ice skating, curling and broadcasting by WestwoodOne Sports.
The huddle originally was slated to begin Monday, but was rescheduled so as not to conflict with the Superbowl Kickoff Spectacular at Liberty State Park, according to Scott Katz, president of the Hoboken Events Committee.
The committee has been planning the huddle for the last two years. The event is intended to draw Super Bowl patrons to Hoboken, Katz said.
