International training school on lightweight steel framed constructions

The objective is to present solutions for the main categories of LWS structures used in buildings. To offer designers/students a comprehensive understanding of the specific issues related to each construction type, the lectures will cover: specific structural typologies and detailing, loading conditions and design criteria, analysis and design verification, and execution requirements.

Additionally, a copy of the ECCS Manual on Cold-Formed Members will be distributed.

The draft program is available here.

A series of 3 webinars next Autumn 2024

This webinar series will explore the strategies to reduce embodied carbon in steel construction: each session will be tailored to a specific topic; Composite Construction, High Strength Steel, and AI-powered steel construction. Led by Alper Kanyilmaz and expert specialists in the respective field, the webinars focus on topic-specific LCA steps, methods for calculating embodied carbon, sensitivity studies, and strategies for reducing embodied carbon relevant to each theme. Including hands-on exercises, real-world examples, and interactive discussions, the series is designed to deepen participants' understanding of specialized areas. At the end of the webinar, participants will be able to calculate the embodied carbon of a steel structure, with a focus on composite construction, high-strength steel, and AI-powered steel construction. Additionally, they will learn techniques and strategies for reducing embodied carbon emissions and analyze real-world case studies of mono and multi-storey steel structures.

More information and registration available soon.

The European Green Deal

Climate change and environmental degradation are an existential threat to Europe and the world. To overcome these challenges, Europe needs a new growth strategy that transforms the Union into a modern, resource-efficient and competitive economy where

- there are no net emissions of greenhouse gases by 2050

- economic growth is decoupled from resource use

- no person and no place is left behind

The European Green Deal is the EU roadmap for making the EU's economy sustainable. This will happen by turning climate and environmental challenges into opportunities across all policy areas and making the transition just and inclusive for all.

The NEWSKIN project

New Logo NewSkin
Key Enabling Technologies (KET´s) deployment will be the driving force for a significant part of the goods and services that will be available in the market in the next decade. Amongst KET´s, nano-enabled surfaces and membranes must be highlighted due to their huge potential to offer material solutions to address Sustainable Development Goals resulting in positive and sound impacts for the society and key industrial sectors. The NewSkin project aims to create an Open Innovation Test Bed (OITB), a new legal entity which will provide the European Innovation Ecosystem with the necessary technologies, resources and services to uptake a set of game changing, efficient and cost- effective innovative processes to manufacture nano-enabled industrial and consumer products as well as the necessary testing capabilities to demonstrate nano-enhanced goods features. The Consortium is coordinated by ECCS. NEWSKIN is an EU funded project under the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme. Click here to reach the Newskin website.
