People have been telling us for years to sell our stuff online. It was a great idea, but who had time with soccer, cross country, volleyball, and endless laundry? Life is busy, ain't it?

Finally, we decided it was time for another sisterly adventure! With backgrounds in art and education, we're confident in providing quality products for kids. Between the two of us, we have 67 years of education experience. Our looks may have faded, but our ideas are still popping!

Creating a Ten-Sided Yin-Yang Globe

Our latest art project for our students brought the ancient concept of yin-yang into a modern and geometric form: a ten-sided yin-yang globe. This project combined art, geometry, and cultural education, resulting in a fun and enriching experience for our young artists.

Materials Needed:

• Ten pentagon templates
• White and black construction paper
• Scissors
• Glue sticks , glue and tape 
• Markers or colored pencils
• Rulers

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Introduction to Yin-Yang: We began with a brief lesson on the symbolism of yin-yang, explaining how it represents balance and harmony in nature. Students were intrigued by the concept and excited to incorporate it into their art.

2. Creating the Pentagons: Each student received ten pentagon templates. They traced these templates onto both colored construction paper of their choice, ensuring they had an equal number of each color.

3. Designing the Yin-Yang: On each pentagon, students drew the yin-yang symbol, carefully dividing the shape into two sections— They used markers or colored pencils to add details, making sure each symbol was clearly visible.

4. Cutting and Gluing: After completing their designs, students cut out the pentagons. They then used glue sticks to assemble the pentagons into a three-dimensional globe. This step involved careful folding and gluing to ensure the shapes fit together perfectly.

5. Assembling the Globe: Starting with a base pentagon, students glued adjacent sides together, alternating colors to maintain the yin-yang balance. They continued this process, building up layers until the globe was complete.

6. Final Touches: Once the glue had dried, students could add any final touches to their globe, such as additional color or patterns, to personalize their creations.

The ten-sided yin-yang globes turned out beautifully, each one unique yet harmonious. This project not only taught students about balance and geometry but also allowed them to express their creativity in a new and exciting way.

Transforming Everyday Tools into Artistic Masterpieces with Jim Dine

Our students recently embarked on an exciting art journey inspired by the renowned artist Jim Dine. Known for transforming ordinary objects into extraordinary works of art, Dine's approach provided the perfect inspiration for our latest project.

Tools and Paintbrushes: Bringing Everyday Objects to Life

1. Introduction to Jim Dine: We began the lesson by introducing the students to Jim Dine and his unique style. They learned about how he uses everyday objects, like tools and paintbrushes, to create expressive and vibrant artworks.

2. Choosing the Object: Each student selected an ordinary object, such as a hammer, screwdriver, or paintbrush. This personal choice made the project meaningful and engaging from the start.

3. Drawing the Object: The next step was to carefully sketch the chosen object. We encouraged students to pay attention to details and proportions, helping them to improve their observational skills.

4. Adding Color and Texture: Using a variety of media, including paints, colored pencils, and pastels, students added color and texture to their drawings. They explored different techniques to make their objects pop off the page.

5. Creating a Background: To make their artwork even more dynamic, students designed a background that complemented their object. This step involved experimenting with colors and patterns to create a cohesive piece. Splatter painting is always a favorite!

6. Final Touches: The last step was to refine their artwork with final touches, adding highlights and shadows to enhance the three-dimensional effect.

The students' artworks were truly extraordinary, showcasing their creativity and newfound appreciation for everyday objects. This project not only honed their artistic skills but also taught them to see beauty in the ordinary.

Captivating Dragon's Eye Art Lesson

As the school year draws to a close, our  students dived into a captivating art project: creating detailed dragon's eyes! This engaging lesson allowed students to explore their creativity and attention to detail, resulting in stunning, unique artworks.

Step-by-Step Dragon's Eye Creation:

1. Sketching the Eye: We started with a simple outline of an eye on paper. Students learned about the shape and placement of the pupil, iris, and surrounding features.

2. Adding Texture: Using colored pencils and markers, the children added scales and textures around the eye. This step was all about enhancing the dragon's skin with patterns and details.

3. Coloring with Depth: We focused on shading techniques to give the eye a three-dimensional appearance. Students chose their favorite colors and blended them to create depth and realism.

4. Final Touches: The last step involved adding highlights and reflections to make the eye look lifelike and magical. Students used white gel pens and glitter to make their dragon's eyes sparkle.

The results were truly magical! Each dragon's eye was unique, reflecting the creativity and imagination of our young artists. This lesson was a perfect way to end the year, leaving students with a sense of accomplishment and a beautiful piece of art to take home.

Art Camp with Guest Artist and Author Mavis Stevens: A Day to Remember!

We had an incredible day at Art Camp with our special guest, Mavis Stevens, author and artist of "Last Chance Trailer Park." The day was packed with hands-on activities, creativity, and lots of fun!

Photo Shoot Fun: Next, we had a fantastic photo shoot. We borrowed a painted insulation board from Maclay Fine Arts' Celebration of the Arts, where Mavis was the highlighted artist (She was our artist in residence for the day). The board had holes cut out for our faces, and we had a blast taking silly and fun photos. After the photo shoot, we laminated the pictures so everyone could keep their memories safe and sound.

Hands-On Experience: Making Ornaments We started our day by making unique ornaments. Using pony beads and pipe cleaners, the children created beautiful keepsakes to take home. It was amazing to see their creativity shine through in each piece they made. Mavis joined us, sharing her tips and tricks and making the experience even more special.

Dance Party Brain Break After all the crafting and photo fun, it was time for a brain break. What better way to unwind than with a dance party? Mavis led the way, and we all danced our hearts out. It was a great way to recharge and enjoy some laughs together.

Making Memories and Being Present: Throughout the day, we focused on being present in the moment and making lasting memories. The children had a wonderful time engaging in hands-on activities, expressing their creativity, and enjoying the company of Mavis Stevens. It was a day filled with laughter, learning, and lots of fun.

This Art Camp experience with Mavis Stevens was truly one to remember. The ornaments, photos, and memories made will be cherished for a long time. Thank you to everyone who joined us and made the day so special!
