It is known that the first public fountain of Calatayud began to be built at the end of the Middle Age, however research about it has been unsuccessful until today. Some unpublished documents, which came from the Notary Public Archive of Calatayud, are offered in this article. These documents present some data about that project, such as the names of the stonemasons who built it. The subject is more significant than it appears to be. Neither enterprises to provide drinking water to the neighborhood, nor even their projects are known before 1500 in Aragón. Consequently, this enterprise in Calatayud can be considered as a precocious one in the Aragonese kingdom.

Abstract:
The city of Valencia favours in 1457, because of the tought drought of years 1455-57, the draining of the pool of Tortajada (Teruel), in order to increase the flow of river Alfambra an so, therefore, the volume of river Turia all his so as to improve the watering of the “Huerta” of Valencia. The present article reports with accuracy on the realization of the project. Although, the results were really disappointing and so, the project was left, this article represents a part of the valencian and turolian hydraulic medieval history and it is as well a good example of the difficulties that promoters of that era ideas had to face up with. Another part of this job is the biography of Rodrigo Marquina, the only one maker that has been identified with the project and he´s known as an “expert” in the topic, in fact, he seems to have been very interested in areas that are nowadays related to engineering.

A Navarrese artist, Juan de Berroeta, a brilliant wood carver, has been known working between 1577 and 1639. This article documents him as the author of the altarpiece of the parish of Santa María de Sádaba (Zaragoza), confirming previous stylistic analysis. Besides, the article points to Antonio Galcerán, a painter from Zaragoza, as the author of the design of that alterpiece.

The main altarpiece of the cathedral of Tudela is considered to be the most outstanding preserved example of the Late Gothic Painting in the kingdom of Navarre. This article presents a new, completely unknown document up to now, which along with the already known ones allows the reader to plausibly reconstruct the complex process of the making of the altarpiece. At the same time, it is possible to identify precisely some other scenes of the altarpiece, made by the same artist, Diego del Águila, a painter from Castile about whom not much is known.

We have got records about a painter named Rafael Juan de Monzón between 1553 and 1571. This artist developed his career almost exclusively in the area of Tudela (Navarra), where he was well known. This article provides new pieces of documents who let us know more about one of his works: an altarpiece consecrated to Our Lady in the Holy Trinity Church of Tudela.
At the same time, we offer new data about other works of his, such as an altarpiece consecrated to San Blas, in Saint James Church in Tudela or the principal altarpiece of the parish of
Fustiñana, this last preserved today. Besides, we can afford some information to complete his biography, specially about his origins, his professional training and his evolution as an artist.

This work presents a contract to make an altarpiece, today lost, consecrated to the Souls of Purgatory for a church in Calaceite (Teruel). That contract was signed by two painters from the city of Tortosa: Joan Desi and a Flemish artist called Godefroy van Steynemolen. The most interesting thing in the document is that it includes a design for the altarpiece. Though it is very simple, it is one of the few preserved ones in Aragon at that time and, besides, it shows the success of that eastern pattern for altarpieces. But there is another interesting thing in that document: the Flemish artist’s autograph. It lets us know his right name, in order to identify him in other Spanish documents, as a member of the Steynemolen family, from the city of Mechelen. Some of whose members had a certain importance in the world of arts and humanism in XVIth century, even in the nearby city of Saragosse."

ABSTRACT: A concord between Juan de Bonilla, master in altarpieces, and the town council of Santa Eulalia, in 1445, lets us know about his biography. According to this document, that Juan de Bonilla could be a different painter from the homonymous one, who was working in Daroca in the second half of XVth. century.

Abstract: We have few information about working on iron beds in the area of mount Moncayo in the Middle Ages, except for its only existence. This study shows that those works can be proved for XIIIth century and, perhaps they have some roots, at least, in the previous century. The iron production in mount Moncayo reaches interesting levels at the end of Middle Ages. It reproduces accurately the movements of European mining, going ahead or going back, and it integrates technological advances that were made in industrial sector. These results, even though they seem not very big, -if we compare them with the rest of great mining areas in the Cantabric coast-, must have been quite profitable for the local economy.

ABSTRACT
In the early years of the XVth century, ottoman raids stopped alum supplies from Minor Asia to Europe. So, new beds had to be found. In the lands belonging to the Aragonese Crown some new beds began to be made working about 1461-1462. This article gives new information about some of these beds, placed near the low watercourse of Jiloca river, in the surroundings of the village of Calatayud. So, it is possible to document more precisely the beginning of some activities and technical procedures that were almost unknown in that area at the end of the Middle Ages, but that will grow on the Iberian mountainous area, specially in Bajo Aragon.

ABSTRACT: Silver mines were discovered in Guadalcanal (Sevilla) in 1555. During the first years of working, they produced such a benefit that started a real mining rush. That fever could be seen, at a different degree, in almost the whole Iberian Peninsula. A text found by chance can give evidences of it in Tudela (Navarra), showing an example of a mining society. That society, even though its results were not as good as expected, tells us about general expectations in those years.

The museum of Zaragoza owns, amongst other of its’ belongings, a historical documentary collection of which there is hardly no record of admission in the centre. The mentioned collection is mainly heterogeneus, therefore the present work gives a brief characterisation of it, as well as it attempts to explain the way in which the collection was conformed and finally was admitted in the institution.

ABSTRACT: In 1549 some by-laws were promulgued in a village called Fustiñana. They were very long, compared to the importance of the place, and they were oriented specially to the agricultural production and properties, and supplementary to the organisation’s regulation and its offitials’ activities and council’s operation. The present article edits its text and studies briefly its contents and its preparation and proclamation circumstances. As a direct answer to the immediate communal life problems, by-laws, are, in general, a very good evidence of juridical and institutional aspects, but also social, economic and even cultural ones, of the historical communities.

This article simply shows a short poetic fragment related to Traditional Hispanic Poetry, that was copied by a court clerk, probably just for entertainment, in a paper notebook’s free pages. That notebook belonged to the Teruel Villages Community fund. Although it isn’t known its exact chronology, according to the sort of handwriting and the paper’s quality, the transcription moment could date at the end of XIV century, or even (although is not as probable) at XV century beginning.

The Aragonese participation in the conquest of Granada, accomplished by the Catholic Kings, has never been a very attractive issue, therefore very few information about it is available. The squire Alfonso de Liñán, inhabitant of Calatayud and “señor de la casa” of Castejón de las Armas, and enlisted in that enterprise is presented in this article. In addition to this, the present document clarifies his motivations and his social, economic and familiar environment. It should be considered that Aragonese noblemen are generally well-known, though not as real combatants, situation avoided by the greatest part of them. The result of the research is priceless, since the opportunities of doing some research about such a character -a real combatant member of the lowest rank of nobility- are not at all numerous, neither in the case of the war of Granada, nor in the case of any other one of the era.

The ancient Study of Arts in Calatayud was in the area round disappeared San Salvador parish. That one was supposed to be in the quarter of Cantarranas, according to some historical news about the town. The precise situation of those places was not clear in the bibliography we commonly use. This article analyses the information we have got up to this moment, and gives new pieces of information to set up the correct places for those sites.
