📢 New Brief: "We might need to calm down about reactive feedback mechanisms" We asked aid recipients about their knowledge, use of & satisfaction with reactive feedback mechanisms. We compared this to their views on aid relevance, influence & fairness. 🔍 What we discovered? - Reactive feedback mechanisms are not working as intended - Satisfactory responses to feedback had modest impact on aid satisfaction 🚨 Reactive feedback is no match for proper engagement. Weak mechanisms can't fix ineffective aid, especially in undignified conditions. 💡 What to do? - Focus on bigger things: build trust, be transparent, encourage dialogue - Fund organisations with community relationships & participatory processes 🔗 Read the full brief: tinyurl.com/2jjanspt

Ensuring that people affected by crisis have a say in humanitarian action.
Info
Ground Truth provides humanitarian agencies with the tools to systematically listen and respond to the voices of affected people. We offer a light-touch way to integrate feedback from affected people into the design and implementation of programmes. The goal is to support better performance by grounding humanitarian aid in the needs, priorities and expectations of affected people. Our work includes projects with the OECD, DFID, IFRC, IRC, Danish Church Aid, Oxfam, MercyCorps, and others, across various countries including Austria, Ethiopia, Greece, Haiti, Kenya, Lebanon, Mali, Nepal, Pakistan, South Sudan, Sierra Leone, Syria and Ukraine.

Are you also sick of 'Participationwashing?' We gathered some innovators at #HNPW and asked how to break the cycle of tinkering at the edges of aid with 'participation' that only cements the status quo, and really ensure communities are driving decisions, even - especially - the tough ones like prioritisation. 💡 Suleiman Abdullahi pointed out the drawbacks of the top-down, supply-driven approach in humanitarian action and suggested better financial systems could make a huge difference. 💡 Layla Hasso told us how she tackled mistrust between humanitarian actors and communities in North-West Syria by shaking up coordination. 💡 Caroline Teti lamented the inefficiencies and wasted funds in the supply chain, re-emphasising the potential of cash. 💡 Onkala Adiwu shared her experience from North-East Nigeria in listening to requests for sustainable support even when they challenge mandates, and reminded us of the consequences when agencies ignore community feedback and stick to their original plans. 🎙 Listen to the full conversation here ➡ https://lnkd.in/dQpa5m5C A big thank you to our panelists and participants! See you again next year, #HNPW!

🪁Ready for what's next! This week, our team took a pause for introspection at our staff retreat, as we started to write our next chapter with a new strategy. Focused on amplifying people's agency and staying true to our mission, we challenged ourselves - with strong input from our incredible project partners and special guests from crisis-affected communities - to think about how to increase our impact in a changing world. We reminded ourselves how lucky we are to play a role in influencing change, at a time when many of us can feel so helpless, and the responsibility that comes with that. The coming years will be so important, and we want them to matter. Huge thank you to Melissa Pitotti for expertly guiding us through our thinking and keeping us on track. If anyone needs a facilitator for their big thinking, we cannot recommend Melissa highly enough! Stay tuned for updates - we'll be calling upon many of you for input as our strategy evolves.
