Tourism Research Australia data released this morning shows the NSW visitor economy is celebrating another record-breaking year, with total visitor expenditure reaching a new high of $52.9 billion. In the year ending June 2024 the state was also Australia’s top destination for international visitors, visitor nights and expenditure. NSW offers diverse and compelling experiences and destinations that inspire, amaze and revitalise visitors, providing lasting memories that encourage them to return again and again. Submissions for the Food, Music and Ideas pillars of Vivid Sydney 2025 are closing soon. Vivid Sydney, the Southern Hemisphere’s largest multi-artform festival, is calling on the best creative minds to submit ideas for next year’s event. Musicians, thought leaders and food creatives are encouraged to be part of Australia’s largest event and showcase their work to a mass audience. Owned, managed and produced by Destination NSW, Vivid Sydney 2025 will take place from 23 May to 14 June 2025. The program will centre around the theme of 'Vivid Sydney, Dream'. While Light and Cross Art Form EOIs have closed, submissions for the Food, Music and Ideas pillars are open until 27 September 2024. The TCS Sydney Marathon made history yesterday, attracting 25,000 runners from more than 100 countries, with thousands of fans lining the streets to cheer them on. The men’s and women’s winners both set record times, making it the fastest marathon ever run on Australian soil. Assessors from around the world were in Sydney to evaluate the delivery of the marathon and its overall participant experience before deciding whether to award the event with Abbott World Marathon Majors Marathon Major status in 2025. Destination NSW is proud to support TCS Sydney Marathon’s candidacy to become an Abbott World Marathon Major. This is the event’s third and final year of candidacy and if successful it will join the most revered marathons in the world, providing a major boost to the NSW visitor economy. The Destination NSW-managed Aviation Attraction fund has landed a new international route, with Turkish Airlines announcing it will begin four direct flights a week between Istanbul and Sydney from 2 December 2024. The new route from one of the world’s leading carriers will deliver an addition 68,620 inbound seats to Sydney Airport in its first year. This is expected to support more than 290 jobs and generate an estimated $53 million for the NSW visitor economy. Turkish Airlines has one of the world’s most extensive aviation networks, flying to more than 340 destinations in 130 countries. These new, direct flights will boost access to NSW from key European markets ahead of the busy summer holiday season. Up to 150,000 spectators are expected to line the streets of Sydney on 15 September 2024 for the TCS Sydney Marathon. The crowds will be cheering on a record 25,000 runners from 100 countries, making the race the largest marathon in Australian history. Spectators will have the chance to support their family and friends or simply soak up the atmosphere at five live sites in The Rocks, Surry Hills, Randwick, Centennial Park and UNSW Sydney. This year’s event will feature top-ranked international marathon runners and rising stars in its final push to become one of the Abbott World Marathon Majors in 2025. Elite athletes were presented with their race bibs this morning at a ceremony attended by Minister for Jobs and Tourism John Graham. Huskisson has been named the country’s Top Tiny Tourism Town at Australia's Top Tourism Town Awards 2024. The win follows ‘Husky’ being crowned NSW’s Top Tiny Tourism Town earlier this year. The Tiny Tourism Town category recognises towns with a population under 1500 people that offer world-class experiences and are committed to increasing visitation to their region. Australia’s Top Tourism Town Awards 2024 winners were announced at Parliament House in Canberra this morning. Kiama and Berry were finalists in the Top Tourism Town and Small Tourism Town and Top Tourism Town respectively, with Berry also being awarded ‘Hall of Fame’ status for having won its NSW category for three consecutive years.
