On a mission to create positive change through the joy of travel.

About us

Intrepid Travel offers sustainable experience-rich travel via more than 900 trips on all seven continents. As a certified B Corp, we're a business that balances purpose and profit. We are the largest global adventure tour operator with a network of 27 destination management companies (DMCs) and a not-for-profit foundation. Majority owned by its co-founders and staff, Intrepid has been taking small groups to travel the local way, on real-life experiences for more than three decades. Through our global DMC network, our expert teams operate the majority of our trips, as well as tours on behalf of other leading travel brands. Our not-for-profit, The Intrepid Foundation, has raised over AUD $15.5m for 160 charities around the world since 2002. We've been carbon neutral since 2010, and in 2020 we became the only tour operator with verified science based targets – these are ambitious 2035 emissions reduction targets, in line with a 1.5°C future. Earlier this year, we were fortunate to host a BBC News film crew in Antarctica on their quest to document the impacts of climate change on whale habitats.   Intrepid is proud to support WWF-Australia’s ‘Protecting Antarctic Giants’ project, working towards securing Antarctic habitats and safeguarding Antarctic species, by carrying WWF scientists on a number of our Antarctica voyages.   The BBC captured their vital work in jaw-dropping footage, filled with ice-dotted bays, waddling gentoo penguins and migrating blue whales.   We believe travel can be used as a force for good, and through this collaboration we can give back to conservation and protect these marine giants for generations to come 💙

Welcome to Pakistan – home to five of the tallest mountains on Earth and the setting for our brand-new 10-day Trek Pakistan’s Karakoram Mountains trip. We’ve just hosted one of our first departures with a group of adventurous travel writers, and we can’t wait to read how they bring to life the country’s stunning snow-capped peaks, incredible cuisine, and warm and welcoming people ✍ With this departure, Intrepid becomes one of the only international operators with a dedicated trekking trip in Pakistan. Our aim is to support tourism development and amplify the unique voices of local communities who have had little opportunity to showcase the rich diversity of their country in the past, but are eager to start welcoming travellers 💚

A huge thank you to all of our riders who have used their muscle power to support the Intrepid Foundation's annual Buffalo Bicycle Ride 💪 On Sunday, the first of 28 global rides kicked off, in locations including Melbourne, Toronto, Istanbul and Nairobi, with 127 riders pedaling to raise an incredible $60,832 (the equivalent of 283 bicycles!) Almost one billion people around the world live in rural areas so remote that they’re forced to walk for miles each day to reach resources needed to survive. Funds raised will put bicycles in their hands, empowering them to access education, healthcare and livelihood opportunities. There’s still time to show your support for World Bicycle Relief and donate at https://buffaloride.org/. Quad Lock #BuffaloBicycleRide #PedaltoEmpower #PowerOfBicycles

We’re always thinking about the future of travel, and with new research showing 75% of travellers hope to take a train on their next trip, we’re excited to be rolling out our brand-new, dedicated rail range.  With 43 trips including three brand-new itineraries, we're making the journey just as exciting as reaching the destination. We think our customers will particularly enjoy the three brand-new itineraries in the range: 🚂 Express to the Orient: Paris to Istanbul, reimagining an iconic route and stopping at classic towns and cities including Strasbourg, Munich and Salzburg along the way. 🚂 Trans-Mongolian Railway Adventure, starting in Beijing and journeying through the countryside of Mongolia ending in Ulaanbaatar. 🚂 Paris to Rome by Rail, which takes the original historic route of the Gotthard railway, constructed in 1872, through the stunning Alps.    These trips add an extra dimension of discovery, allow travellers to experience a local way of getting around, and embrace the slow travel approach – allowing travellers to sit back, take in the views and truly enjoy the journey. Our new trips are a unique ticket to relax and enjoy the essence of slow travel. Which one would you choo-choose first? 😉👉 https://lnkd.in/gWsCBbh9

Our Indonesia GM Ravindra Singh S. is just one team member who has taken up our educational leave benefit (an additional five days of annual leave) to get out and experience an Intrepid trip of his choice! That’s right – we think getting out on a trip is one of the best ways to learn! Earlier this year, Ravi swapped the palm trees of Bali for the northern lights on our Premium Iceland in Winter itinerary. We believe experiencing our product is one of the best ways for our people to connect with their peers, get to know our customers and gather feedback. Explore some of Ravi’s highlights below and visit careers.intrepidtravel.com to learn more about our educational leave program and other staff benefits ✨

National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation. Launching this National Reconciliation Week, Intrepid Travel is proud to be raising money to support Country Needs People, our newest Intrepid Foundation partner in Australia. Country Needs People is a not-for-profit creating opportunities for Indigenous rangers and protected areas to care for Country, protect nature and increase biodiversity. All donations made to Country Needs People before 30 June will be matched - to double our impact. To get the donations rolling, Intrepid has contributed $10,000 and we have an ambitious goal of raising $100,000 before 30 June. Please consider giving, knowing that you’re helping Indigenous rangers on the front line who are protecting Australia’s biodiversity and cultural heritage. To support keeping people and country strong, donations can be made via the Intrepid Foundation: https://lnkd.in/geAA2Ekt

Last month, we and our friends at Cotopaxi joined forces for our first-ever joint press trip in Ecuador!   This brand-new, exciting initiative brought together journalists in the adventure space for an epic eight-day itinerary, testing out new travel gear while experiencing the power of responsible, community-led travel.    From the heights of the Andes to the depths of the Amazon Jungle, the group enjoyed no shortage of unmatched beauty and action while bonding over Intrepid and Cotopaxi’s shared mission of “travel for good” and “gear for good”.   We love collaborating with fellow B Corps to advance the movement and can’t wait to read the impactful stories that come out of this trip! 💚 ✍️

Overtourism is the term for when a destination experiences an unsustainable influx of tourists, causing negative impacts on the environment and local community. We try to minimise these impacts in the design and operation of our trips and believe every traveller can do their part to reduce harm in a destination. Confession time: I'm a sucker for a good story, and within the Intrepid Travel community there's no shortage of good, heart-warming and tear-jerking stories. 💙 Stories have the power to transform and transcend. They have the power to bring people together and truly change lives. And one thing about our team is that we're surrounded by *good* stories each and every day. Stories that we get to share with our wider community on so many different platforms, but none so tangibly as this. This video, narrated by Intrepid traveller Liisa Ladouceur and produced, edited and ideated by the one and only Louise Booth, captures the heart of what it means to be an Intrepid traveller. When we say “good trips only”, this is what we mean. Get ready to reach for those tissues, you’ll need it! ✨ Leigh Barnes Mikey Sadowski #WeAreIntrepid
