Two of the seven seats on the Springfield Public Schools school board were up for general election on April 5, 2016. One other seat was up for special election after Francine Pratt vacated her seat in October 2015. School board incumbent Gerry Lee was the only candidate to file for election to the seat. Due to the lack of opposition, the election was canceled and Lee was automatically elected.[2][1] Candidates Allen Kunkel, Charles Taylor, Michelle Gavel, Mellisa Penkalski, and Alina Lehnert all filed for election to the two regular three-year seats. Taylor and Lehnert defeated the other candidates to win seats on the school board.[1]
