Allen Sharp is an former Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Indiana. Sharp died on July 10, 2009.

Early life and education

A native of Washington, DC, Sharp graduated with his bachelor's degree from the George Washington University in 1954 and graduated from the Indiana University School of Law with his juris doctoral degree in 1957. 29 years after graduating from law school, Sharp graduated from Butler University with a Masters degree in 1986.[1]

Professional career

After Law School, Sharp went into private practice in Willamsport from 1957 to 1963. Before his appointment to the federal bench, Sharp was appointed by the Indiana Judicial Nominating Commission as a judge for the Indiana Court of Appeals from 1969 to 1973. Also, Sharp served with distinction in the US Air Force Reserve as a Lieutenant Colonel from 1957 to 1984.[1]

Judicial nominations and appointments

Northern District of Indiana

Sharp was nominated by President Richard Nixon on September 13, 1973 to a seat vacated by former district judge Robert Grant. Sharp was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on October 4, 1973 and received commission on October 11, 1973. Sharp served as chief judge of the court from 1981 to 1996 before assuming senior status on November 1, 2007. Sharp died on July 10, 2009.[1][2]
