Amicus brief refers to a brief filed in a case with the intent of influencing the court's decision by an amicus curiae or amici curiae (plural), which is Latin for "friend of the court." Amicus curiae or amici curiae are typically an individual or group who are not a party to an action in a case but have a strong interest in the issues presented. In order to file an amicus brief, the amicus curiae petitions the court for permission to submit the brief.[1]
