2014

Quintero highlighted the following issues on his campaign website:

Access to a Quality and Dignified Education for all students in Alum Rock School District
  • Led and delivered : moving the district towards full day kindergarten. Today every school in our district now offers extended day kindergarten.
  • Led and delivered : bringing University of California curriculum to Alum Rock School District. Today the district is running a pilot program which provides advanced courses to our middle schoolers. Eventually, this program will be expanded to all of our middle schools.
  • Led and delivered : restoration of Arts funding. As a result of drastic budget cuts, some of the funding for the arts was cut. Working with the administration, we were able to restore that funding and mitigate some of the potential damage that could have resulted from those difficult but necessary cuts.
  • Led and delivered : as Chair of the Small Schools and Innovation committee, Andres led the effort to expand access to dual language immersion programs in Alum Rock. As a result a second dual language immersion school opened this year.

Health and Safety of our students

  • Led and delivered : brought in over a million dollars in public and private financing to renovate regional ball fields in our district. These resources create opportunities for healthy outdoor activities for our students and neighbors.
  • Led and delivered : as a member of the Bond Facilities Committee, Andres was able to ensure that a majority of the bond measure funds went to making our schools safer. These priorities included renovating roofs, paint and plumbing.

Equity

  • In Progress: working to develop an equity policy which ensures that our district will effectively meet the needs of each and everyone of our students.

Moving Alum Rock School District forward

  • In Progress: while we have experienced some good progress there is much work to be done. Our number one priority is to ensure that Alum Rock continues to move forward in a positive direction and that each and every child receives a quality and dignified education.[11]
