Anna Katherine Johnston Diggs Taylor was a Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. She joined the court in 1979 after being nominated by President Jimmy Carter (D). Taylor died on November 4th, 2017.

Early life and education

A native of Washington, D.C., Taylor graduated from Barnard College with her bachelor's degree in 1954 and from Yale Law School with her J.D. in 1957.[1]

Judicial nominations and appointments

Eastern District of Michigan

Taylor was nominated by President Jimmy Carter on May 17, 1979, to a new seat on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan created by 92 Stat. 1629. Taylor was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on October 31, 1979, and she received her commission on November 2, 1979. Taylor served as the chief judge of the Eastern District of Michigan from 1996 to 1998 before later electing to take senior status beginning on December 31, 1998. Taylor served on senior status until her death on November 4, 2017.[1]
