Biography

Brad Halbrook was born in Pana, Illinois, and lives in Shelbyville, Illinois. Halbrook's career experience includes co-owning a farming operation and working as the president of Modern Livestock Systems, Inc. He co-founded Illinois GREAT and has served on the Illinois Beef Association Board.[1][2][3]

Elections for the Illinois House of Representatives were held in 2016. The primary election was held on March 15, 2016, and the general election was held on November 8, 2016. The candidate filing deadline was November 30, 2015.[4] Incumbent Adam M. Brown (R) did not seek re-election.

Brad Halbrook defeated James Acklin and Randy Peterson in the Illinois House of Representatives District 102 Republican primary.[7][8]

Race background

Independent groups associated with Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner spent money in favor of Halbrook, while Acklin received a $53,000 donation from the Chicago Land Operators Joint Labor-Management PAC, which is sympathetic to public union issues, as well as donations from other unions like the Illinois Education Association and the Illinois Federation of Teachers. Around $40,000 reported by the Peterson campaign came from outgoing State Rep. Adam Brown.[9]

Halbrook was officially endorsed by Republican Gov. Rauner and the Illinois Chamber of Commerce PAC. Peterson was officially endorsed by outgoing State Rep. Adam Brown. Acklin's website did not list any endorsements.[10][11][12]

Halbrook won election in the 2012 election for Illinois House of Representatives District 110. Halbrook defeated Kevin L. Garner in the March 20 Republican primary and was unopposed in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[13][14][15]

Brad has consistently supported lower taxes. He has a history of fighting tax hikes at a state and local level. He'll oppose an income tax hike and will work for property tax caps.

Business Climate

Jobs are leaving Illinois every day and along with that Illinois families. Brad will work to improve the Illinois business climate by reforming worker's compensation laws and by reducing unnecessary regulations.

Pro-Family

Brad Halbrook is Pro-Life and supports traditional marriage.

Pro-2nd Amendment

Brad supports the right of citizens to own weapons to defend their property and family, secure their liberty, and engage in sporting activities.

Government Reform

Brad has advocated reforming our governmental processes for over a decade. As a legislator, he sponsored bills to provide transparency for local governments. He favors term limits and redistricting reform.

Pension Reform

Brad will work for constitutional reforms of our pension system. Brad was just the fifth legislator ever to refuse the lucrative General Assembly pension benefit.[17][18]
